No, no no. We had something similar to a social list before called uug-free (I believe). It failed in its purpose almost immediately. Often technical topics will go off topic into one of the subjects you suggest the social list is for. It happens. Or people will just post to one list when they should have posted to the other. And getting people to move the conversation to another list is almost impossible. uug-newbie actually worked for a while, but it has died too. > The alternative plan, on this, is to do nothing, or drop the newbie > list altogether. Drop the newbie list and don't do a social list. If people start complaining about mail traffic, plan a meeting to teach people how to use various programs to sort mail and ignore threads. > Third: I want to setup a few tools that are more geared toward the > social side of the UUG. Good idea, although I don't think the word "social side" is the right term. Maybe something like "professional interests". Other suggestions for the new presidency: 1 - Like I said at the last meeting, have the presidency information on the website so people can contact you. 2 - Meet as a presidency often to plan / organize the group. Sure, email is nice, but my past experience is that things just seem to click better when the presidency meets in person. 3 - Bring flame wars back. Until recently, there have really been no flame wars on UUG. I'm bored.
