OK, here's the next thing to listen for. When the drive starts spinning, do you here any other little noises? Most hard drives have a little noise they make when they start up. It is hard to describe in words, but I will attempt it. It should sound something like: dut dut dut dut duuuuuuhhhh dirrrrrrr dut Basically, it's 4-5 litle noises, two longer noises, then a short one again.
