Try doing a google search for "Mac VGA adapter switch" or such and start 
trying combinations.  Make a record of what you do.

My main bit of advice is to disconnect the HD before you start trying 
stuff.  This way you can try a setting then boot and see if it works. 
If it doesn't then change the settings and restart 
(Command-Control-Power).  Because the drive is disconnected you can 
restart without out running the risk of corrupting the drive.
