What would've been much better is if Apple and Microsoft had worked together to
provide FAT32 support for Mac OS and HFS/HFS+ support for Windows 95B and
later. That would've made cross platform working so much easier!
Server versions of Windows NT and 2000 (dunno about Server 2003 and 2008) had
the optional Services For Macintosh where Macs could store files on Windows
servers. SFM also included the "forkize" command to repair Mac files that had
lost their association between their data and resource forks.
Microsoft *was* going to include SFM in XP Pro but didn't ship it that way.
XP's Help* mentions it and the MS TechNet site also had information about the
non-existant SFM in XP Pro.
*Search for Macintosh in Help, it's been removed from XP SP3 help but other
references to Windows Server only Macintosh functions remain.
In 1995, shortly before the release of Windows 95, Apple announced they were
going to release an AppleShare IP client for Windows 95 - and that's all that
was ever heard about it. Strange decision from Apple, especially when they
already had an ASIP client for Windows 3.1x.
