I finally got the 520M disk to work as the IIsi's internal drive. I think the problem was that I formatted it with a recent version of the Drive Setup before installing it into the IIsi. I put it into a external cabinet; connected it to the 6100; formatted it again with FWB software -- which installed its own drivers -- ; installed System 7.5.3 from disk images; placed it back inside the IIsi. Voila! The computer recognized it and started from it. Once inside the IIsi, I applied the 7.5.5 update from floppies.
I reformatted the 2G HD the same way and installed System 7.5.3 in one partition and System 6.0.7 on another. It mounted as an external volume on the IIsi. However, when I tried to start the IIsi from it (System 6.0.7), I got the sad mac icon!
Thanks again.
