I keep saying Apple needs to pay attention to the
"power user" customer. There are folks still hanging
onto their 9500/9600 because they really, truely
NEED SIX PCI SLOTS.

My PC has an ABIT KG7 RAID motherboard and I have
most of the slots filled. It'd be the same should I
buy a Macintel, assuming Apple has sense enough to
send one out the door with at least four free slots
in default config with a videocard installed.

In the pics released of the x86 Mac development
systems, there are only two PCI slots. Video looks
like it's in an AGP slot. For PC boxen, that's the
kind of junk found at WalMart and $350 Hewlett
Packard Pavilion boxes.

To convince the mid to high end PC user that buying
an x86 Mac is a good idea, Apple will have to make
a highly expandable box, as well as the little
two slotter.

No more repeats of the old pattern of jumping to a
new CPU and slashing expansion ability like was done
with the move to the 040 (II series with 6 or 3 slots,
Q700 with only two) and to the G3. (60x with up to
6 slots, G3 with only 3.) Jumping to the x86 megahertz
monsters and at the same time cutting back to a
paltry TWO PCI slots is only going to make the PC
crowd point and giggle hysterically.

It will be total Fandemonium!
