Hi Grant, I just tried Looktel Money Reader, which I hadn't used for a while. It used to recognize bills very quickly, but that doesn't appear to be the case any more for me. I have an iPHone 4S. What I found works reliably is to hold the camera over the bill, about six inches away, and hold it still for 5 or 6 seconds, possibly a little longer. I hope this works for you.
