Alex Thanks for this. I won't fret so much about closing things. I did call Apple Accessibility and indeed the verbal feedback is no longer there in the app switcher for the app you are in, not until you swipe and get into the action menu. I suppose Tune In also no longer supports the scrub gesture.
We sorted out all kinds of other things, and in regard to Siri there appear to be some slight differences since it is a different operating system from the 4S to the 6. Not least of all something I was trying to pinpoint, was what the odd soft breathy noise I was hearing was associated. It seemed to sound when I was near the home button or edges; it even made a kind of soft hissing noise when I was not even touching the phone at all. The sound was associated with the reach ability feature. Now, maybe it's time to make a playlist using I Tunes on the computer or just copy a bunch of stuff into Drop Box for expediency. I have to say the easy accessible verbal feedback for song titles, artists and album titles is fantastic - I am now once more music literate. You really never need to close apps, especially with iOS7 or 8 and the newer iPhones or iPads. The system manages things well, and makes apps sleep or work in the most efficient way it can. The only time you'd need to close an app is if it is misbehaving (sucking up data or power like crazy, or not responding correctly). Mostly, you can leave apps alone and you'll be fine. The App Switcher is a quick way to access recent apps, or apps being handed off by other Apple devices, but it isn't necessary to keep it cleaned out. I guess I like more rather than less verbosity. What is nice is that if I simply hit the home button once, it will bring me back to the home page where I might want to open something else without closing settings or whatever app I was just in, so that is easy! It isn't that the focus is on the wrong app, it's that VoiceOver is silent, not speaking the app at all. Simply touch the screen to focus; you'll have to do that anyway, to close it, or to start swiping to other apps, so it's really nothing extra.
