Purposefully making either a device that detects differences in a cable, or making the cables in such a way to prevent the triggering of such a message would be a money making scheme that should be illegal.

There must be something different about that particular cable that causes the alert. In order to give flexibility and strength to cables, they are made of stranded wire, and if only one strand breaks, it can cause problems. This might be what is happening, although this is conjecture on my part, based on my past workings with making cables using a soldering iron, electronic solder, wire and jacks. --- Be positive! Each cable and transformer costs so the more they sell the more they make. On Feb 12, 2015, at 9:58 AM, Julian <mrc1...@gmail.com> wrote: Hi Alan, This should not harm your phone at all. I charge my phone using both a micro USB cable along with a lightning to micro USB adapter and I get this message all the time when I plug the phone in and once the phone is done charging. Thus far, neither my iPhone 5s nor my iPhone 6 has been damaged in anyway that I can tell from using this method. I really wish that there was a way to turn off that annoying announcement but, I'm sure that it is to apples advantage to annoy and or scare us into using only their proprietary cables. At least one other confirmed this message and got a 2-meter lightning cable from the Apple Store in order to avoid it. I can now confirm that I only get this unsupported accessory message after my iPhone is fully charged. I believe others have also reported this same result. So, I decided to save the $30 on the 2-meter lightning cable and continue to use my USB extension cables to provide more length since the phone does charge with this arrangement. If anyone thinks my approach could be detrimental to my iPhone, I'd love to hear your comments. Thanks. Alan Lemly -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list.
