Thanks, Penny. I did get a couple pressure-cooker books from Bookshare when I first got the pot, but I don't remember that specific one. Will download it forthwith.

Steve and Mary, I am a member of the regular Instant Pot Facebook

group's members have been very helpful to me every time I've had a
question.

BTW, there are quite a few books at BookShare that cover pressure
cooking recipes as well as those specifically concerning the Instant
Pot and other electric pressure cookers. The best, I think, is Melissa
Clark's "Dinner in an Instant." Clark is one of the best food writers
for the NYTimes, and all the recipes I have tried in the book have
turned out extremely well!

Happy cooking, all, and Mary, I always love hearing from you.

Hi Steve,
I certainly do know a blind people who have the model that is not Bluetooth.
There is actually a Facebook group of blind folks, and that topic of the
instant pot comes up a good deal. The group is called Enabled Kitchen, if
that interests anyone. Since I shut down my Facebook account, I am no longer
a member. You can certainly adjust things like the time of cooking with the
“more“ or less ““ buttons. You just have to remember or have written down
somewhere what time you’re starting with and how much each press of a button
ads or subtracts from the time. So, I’m sure it is doable. But I really like
the ability to convenience of the iOS app. They also have an android app.
But I’m not sure how accessible it is.

This is very interesting. Someone else with whom I corresponded on this
topic told me they didn't think having the iOS access and accessibility
was worthwhile. With all you mentioned, I can't possibly imagine how my
correspondant could have thought that.

Hi Alan,
If you want to use the app, which is fully accessible, you would need to
get the instant pot model that includes Bluetooth. That unfortunately
makes it a good deal more expensive. The instant pot does have very
tactile buttons on the front. So if you didn’t want to spend the money,
you could make yourself a braille chart of what the buttons do. That
having been said, I do have the Bluetooth model and I’m glad. One of the
things that you can do is adjust the cooking duration. That is easy with
the Bluetooth model. If you just have the one with the buttons were
nothing talks you would have to remember the various amounts of time that
you’re starting with depending on what operation you want to do, and then
I assume hit a plus or minus button to advance or decrease the amount of
time.
You can monitor the temperature with the app. You can monitor the time
remaining under pressure. You can set the duration as I noted. Of course,
you can also tell it to do various things like soup, rice, manual, there
are a whole bunch of them. I’m honestly not sure how much difference all
those things make, except there are times that are preset of course, but
they can be changed by you. You can also slow cook or make yogurt, none
of which I have done. You do have to pair the device, which means before
you can do anything with the app, you have to hit a certain button on the
pot to start the process. And I honestly don’t remember which one that
is. There is a section for recipes. I never use it. On the bottom there
are tabs, and I always go to the one that says dashboard. That is where
you can decide what sort of cooking you want and set the various
parameters accessibly. You can do a lot with these things, and I’m sure I
have not made as much use of mind for different things as many people on
the huge Insta pot facebook group have done.

Hi List,

I know this isn't a cooking list but I have a question about the Instant
Pot and what exactly its iOS app allows one to control. I read the
Instant Pot app description and it seems to talk more about recipes as
opposed to controlling the device with the app. Can anyone who uses an
Instant Pot give me some direction on what the app allows you to do and
whether it's accessible? Is there a particular Instant Pot model that I
need to get to obtain app control over it?

Thanks so much for any help you can provide.
