Everyone has different Wants and needs, and if aira is one of those
services that's useful, just use the service. We all have different ways of
accessing assistance. out of many ways, for us, one of those ways is to hire
local people to assist us. The assistance we need isn't a daily occurence,
typically in a month's time it could be anywhere from 2 to 5 times at the
most. So essentially we are paying as we go in obtaining the ssistance we
need from these local friends and acquaintances. Where as with aira, if
you've paid for the service, and if you found that you didn't use that much
assistance, then that's a certain amount of money donated to the
service.Though if you need that much assistance aira would be worth it.
That's something individually we all decide for ourself with the services we
use, that benefit us.

What on earth is wrong with having different options? Just because someone
doesn't want to use a particular service or app doesn't mean that it may not
benefit many others. Personally, I am amazed at how someone thinks they can
tell others what they should or should not purchase and how they should live

I have not yet tried Aira, but I can definitely see cases where it could be
quite useful.

It used to take me forever to check the mail. Sure I could use SeeingAi or

wait for a sighted person to be around? My wife and I, both visually

You’ve constructed quite a nice straw man there, but it’s not at all true.
Finally, I’m not unemployed, and in fact make quite a bit as a full time
programmer. I’m not sure why so many blind people are unemployed, I
certainly had no issue finding a job, but of course there are other
circumstances. But there are plenty of us who are successful and who can
subscribe to Aira, so why shouldn’t we? $199 isn’t so much at the end of the
day.

I love talking to strangers the whole time I am out, , not on a device.

Sometimes, I think the blind were better off, when they had to get a reader
to read everything to them, and they had to remember it or take good Braille
notes as the human read to them.
New is not always better for people!

Considering that most blind people are unemployed, and that the average
income of blind folks is well below that of those who are not blind, aiRa
will only be feasible for a minority of blind people, thus making services
like Be My Eyes, and platforms like MS Seeing AI a welcome alternative.

I can only tell you about “Be my eyes” and a difficulty I experienced. A
volunteer said, ”over there”. That isn’t very helpful to a blind person. I
do know of 2 stores who offer “Aira” for free: Wallgreens and Wegmanns. This
