I agree there's too much bashing of other platforms going on. IMHO, we should all feel happy there's choice, and when someone else chooses a phone that we haven't chosen ourselves, we should be glad there's choice and not get defensive that the solution we went with wasn't selected. We may be elated with our choice for now, but things may change over time, and we may find ourselves happy we have options ourselves. I know I was a happy Nokia phone owner, but I was sure glad there were options when that Symbian based platform went by the boards.

I've seen multiple references now to the fragmentation going on in Apple's world, and to be honest, this just isn't the case. Fragmentation is not a single vendor supporting a few different screen sizes or models with different hardware from year to year. Fragmentation is multiple handsets from multiple vendors each with their own source code branch to support it.

Everyone who has a supported Apple device got IOS 8 at exactly the same time. Absolutely no one had to wait. This is not true in the Android world where new versions of Android need to be ported to different manufacturers hand sets once it's released. I'm not bashing Android, I'm an Android user myself. This model provides some great advantages, such as multiple form factors and a much greater degree of out of the box customization. Fragmentation is the price that's paid for these options though. Neither model is good or bad, they're just different, but try telling that to a fan boy from either camp.

I would agree Apple does a better job of supporting older hardware, but remember, we're comparing apples and oranges here. The fragmentation in the Android space does confuse this issue. I have a Nexis 7 that was released in 2012 and it'll be getting Android L when it's released later this year, so Google Play editions of Android phones are supported for quite a while. Android also runs on much lower end phone models. I don't think you'd expect a phone going for $100 or $200 to have the same longevity of support that you'd get for a $600 phone.

If you support all mobile platforms then I wouldn't accuse the Apple environment of becoming more fragmented. This is just an Android fan boyism being tossed out against Apple, and it just isn't true. And BTW, I don't consider myself an Apple fan boy, but you don't need to be to know that the Apple world is not fragmented the same way the Android world is.

That was then, and this is now.

Microsoft's WP8.1 works on MobilePhones such as WP8 MobilePhones, which were released 2 Years ago, and are still scheduled to receive more updates such as WP8.1 UpDate 1 and so forth. So I suggest you Stop Trashing other Mobile PlatForms in an effort to stray the conversation away from its primary purpose, which is Apple's iOS8 doesn't appear to support the MobileDevices it stated it would give or take a couple of features such as Apple's iOS8 ApplePay.

Fragmentation IS rearing its head IN Apple's Garden. It's NOT exclusive to Google's Android anymore. Is it? If I'm wrong, someone (Apple FanBoys), please correct me. I'm NOT against Apple or any other Mobile Platform. I'm for accessibility IN all Mobile Platforms (Apple's iOS, Microsoft's Windows (WP), & Google's Android)

Works with iOS 8 with limitations. Apple does their best to support older hardware, and does a better job than Google and Microsoft. Good luck getting the latest version "of Android working on a four year old Android phone. I also used to have similar problems getting new versions of Windows working on four year old computers.

The fact is, technology is always changing. Moore's Law states that device power will double every 18 months. So, a four year old device, such as an iPhone 4S, is the great grandfather to the iphone 6 (three generations ago).
