That might be a good idea.
But whether the grouping is done by ttf.library or in Voyager, there
will have to be a setup GUI somewhere in which users can indicate which
fonts belong together.
Some fonts are unique, some are in families of two, three, four or up to
about 12 members. More if you want to include condensed, extended,
outline, small caps and expert fonts.
I feel this should be done at the AmigaOS level really, so that it works
for Intellifonts, Type 1 and TrueType. Gold Disk used to have a little
file for each font family, listing the members. Maybe it should be added
to the .otag file or the .font file, or be a new file.
Thinking about it, a new file with its own GUI would be best. It would
be named after the "basic" member, e.g. "Times-Roman.family". There are
three variables - weights (bold, heavy, etc), transformations (extended,
italic, oblique) and uses (small caps, expert, Euro).
The application using the fonts would have to check to see if th
bold-italic version (for instance) exists. If not (example Symbol), it
makes it algorithmically.
