It can, and should, be done automatically. All decent TTF fonts that
DO belong to a family have that family encoded inside them, and I
know for a fact that you can glean that info from within the ttf.library.
The standard bullet.library API actually supports proper family
emboldening etc. rather than algorithmic "smearing", so it's definitely
possible.

The bullet.library API already supports it, .otag files have fields to
support it. Just no-one uses them yet.

Well, it's in the standard API. I did a lot of research into extending
AmigaOS just before I killed my "wishlist", and that was one of the more
intriguing things; the AmigaOS has a bloody comprehensive font API that
has been dormant since OS 2.0.. what a waste..
