Oh! I did this to my 4pc 8wt on the Skagit last Fall.
I had just released a chum. I was in a hurry to get my
line back out. I forgot to check the rod's  integrity.
I back cast, then forward cast. The rod went SNAP! on
the forward cast/stop. The top three sections of the
rod started floating downstream. I almost went for a
swim going after those sections.

Anyway, since that happened, I check my rod sections
religiously. I have considered taping my rod.
