FYI, I fished my 1409 CND Custom today for three hours and it didn't come loose. I checked it twice. I made double speys and spiral rolls. I believe it's the spiral rolls coming after a series of double speys, snap-T's and single speys that torque a speyrod out of it's seat.

What kind of wax do you use?

I used to tape my speyrods but since I have always waxed my ferrules on all my rods for as long as I've been flyfishing, I also wax my speyrods - both for staying together and taking apart. I am always checking my speyrods through the day to make sure they're stuck. If you're practicing, check them even more, because the number of casts have increased as well as the weird torqing we do when practicing. As for dirt getting on the wax and grinding my ferrules, I simply don't drop or lay my rods on the ground.
