Family History is a good enough reason to get your own domain name...
what better address to write to other family members (close and
distant - both physically and on the family tree) than from an address
something like gra...@winters.id.au
It also makes it easier for other people researching your family to
find you :)
Particularly if you publish some of your information to the web for
other family members to share.
As mentioned else where in this thread, it only costs less than $20-30
a year for a domain... you can then either have your personalised
domain email redirected to your ISP mailbox (and it is dead easy to
change this if you move ISP)
OR you can direct it to a gmail account (and not worry that your email
address there is graeme.winters.in.perth.au.because.i.can.not.get.a.shorter.address.than.t...@gmail.com
)
OR you can you domain hosted at a dedicated hosting company... usually
for well under $100pa particularly if you just want basic email and a
simple website
If you go down the hosting option and get the right domain name, then
you also have some great gifts for the rest of the family - their own
personalised email address :) no more of this hotmail, yahoo, or
gmail :)
eg
f...@winters.id.au
mar...@wintersfamily.com
Setting up your own domain is actually quite simple and not difficult
to administer... and offers many many benefits... so go for it :)
