My advice is that if we don't use WO to host the web site, we can use
anything completely unrelated to WO, choosing a solution based on
administration simplicity and accessibility, no matter it is a step
backward technologicaly speaking.
Personnaly, I think we should run a basic solution using WO that will
growth with the time to include modules people think are necessary,
progressively.
As a starting point, a simple WO application with news engine and
basic CMS features (projects repository with a link to the file,
homepage, and descriptive text with categorization should be
sufficient).
I agree the whole thing should be opensource

Sure, but be reminded that Magnolia is a huge step backwards: "JSP
templating" and the like. Who is going to take charge of the design
the day that Pascal is busy? Volunteers?
Somehow, going with Magnolia reminds the time when Microsoft was
using unix for hosting HotMail. Only, it's much worse this time: at
the end any unix is better than any windows. But in our case it
would be the opposite. Pier running on top of Seaside is at least a
step forward in some respects.

(hint: play with the counter at the bottom and with your browser
back button trying to confound the WebApp. Impossible: this counter
thing is a real App, no matter it is being served via Web).
