It sounds like there needs to be a meta-level structure for repos to advertise
themselves and a place that can harvest those adverts and maintain a meta-
catalog.  Instead of hardcoding a repo into the pkg bits, hardcode the
clearinghouse, and have the clearinghouse host a master list.

As in:

# svcadm enable application/pkg/server
# pkg repo-advertise clearinghouse.opensoplaris.org "John's really
cool train tools"
# pkg list -A
pkg.opensolaris.org/repo/      OpenSolaris foo
myhost.mydomain.com         John's really cool train tools
...
