It looks fine to me - the only thing I would say is that if the old blogs page
(www.opensolaris.org/os/blogs) is being retired then it would be good to have
all of the blogs that were on this page provided on planet as well - the two
seem to have slightly different lists. I prefer reading blogs on planet so the
fact the old one has gone away isn't a problem for me, as long as it includes
all the blogs the old blogs page did.

The lists are pretty different and we wouldn't be able to bring over all those blogs because the requirements were different as well. The old tonic blog space represents anyone who wanted to be on there, basically. I just required that people had a user name on the site and blogged about OpenSolaris from time to time. I stopped adding blogs a while ago, though, and there are many people on the list who don't blog any more at all. Also, the space is broken, but that's another issue. But Planet is quite different. It has always been focused on those people who are most active on the project (in a variety of areas, of course).

I also don't think it is a good idea to have a seperate subsites page that
isn't part of the site map. This creates unnecessary duplication for no obvious
benefit, in my view. It's just another page that is likely to get out of date ,
whereas the site map is maintained automatically.

I agree with this. We made an effort prior to the final migration to consolidate (delete, merge, move, rewrite, etc) some content to reduce the number of top level, common pages hanging off the main page on hub -- the stuff /not/ in Communities, Projects, and User Groups. And I think we can move further in this direction, so we stay lean and well organized. hub is really a space for community editing, and all of that action takes place inside Collectives. The stuff around the outside should be just to help enable the community inside.
