But Jive software was (and still is) only used for the website forums,
so that's not "staying up to date" but still migrating from the previous
tonic portal to a new content management system.   How is that easier?

I see no free option on Jive's website price list, and most companies
treat OpenSolaris as the community outreach program of a multi-billion
dollar corporation, not an independent non-profit, and thus aren't as
willing to offer free licenses.
