It looks like the example skin "basic" has a few issues. To get it to work,
go into basic/index.html.tmpl and change this

      <div id='data_table'>
        #include $Extras.current
        <p>&nbsp;</p>
        #include $Extras.hilo
      </div>

to this

      <div id='data_table'>
        #include "current.inc"
        <p>&nbsp;</p>
        #include "hilo.inc"
      </div>

In the file current.inc, change this

#if $trend.windSpeed.formatted > 0
      &#8679;
#elif $trend.windSpeed.formatted < 0
      &#8681;
#end if

to this

#if $trend.windSpeed.raw > 0
      &#8679;
#elif $trend.windSpeed.raw < 0
      &#8681;
#end if
