Subject: Traws Cymru

The WAG have now had a hissy fit because Arriva have registered most of the rest of the Traws Cymru network commercially which puts their grand vision at threat, dispite the difficulty of working out what the grand vison is and (given how long they've been talking about it) when they were >going to deliver it!

I wonder if the Welsh Government really ARE having a hissy fit about it? It sounds good to make it appear that they are, maybe.

I'm a little suspicious myself of the way things are ultimately going to go with Arriva's 'Cymru Express'.....but all the same, good luck to them. What investment has there been in the North Wales 'Trawscambria' in recent years? Have their been any improvements in vehicles or timetables?

No - there hasn't. But there's been a constant stream of reports from local authorities regarding their 'aspirations' (their term) for the future of these services, but no action. At least Arriva are having a go themselves.

As for WAG, I believe the current administration (and Transport Minister) are in fact rather less committed to buses than they once were, the reality of public finances being what they are. The T4 isn't actually all that it could be (and that's no fault of the operator). Branding and publicity is insipid and only people south of Brecon have seen any actual improvements in the basic timetable.

No, I'm firmly convinced that anything which allows WAG to spend less themselves is probably more welcomed than they'd like us to believe.
