Subject: Re: Traws Cymru
I believe that the section above Merthyr is operated under a contract where
Stagecoach dont retain any revenue so there's no incentive for them to do
anything (I assume the WAG would complain if Stagecoach started running
their own extra journeys!). Despite the number of competing >services
recently (6060s recent one and the one from Aberdare a few years ago) it's
not very good bus territory.
A Sunday service would be useful however (6060 used to run one a few years
ago) especially if the service is viewed as part of a long distance
network.
Yes, the lack of a basic Sunday service is rather ridiculous. Again, the
yawning chasm between the recommendations of various consultants reports in
the past and the cold reality of what is provided.
And as you say, it's the council that takes the revenue from the Brecon -
Newtown stretch. If you look at the stretch between Brecon and Merthyr the
population is very sparse indeed - I travel that road quite regularly and
hardly ever see anyone waiting for a bus, unless they are
walkers/backpackers.
I'm sceptical as to the future of Trawscymru to be honest. And I wonder what
WAG's Trawscymru manager (who I believe is or was based in North Wales?)
does all day, when you consider that even basic publicity for the T4 is so
shockingly poor.
