the fiber is fiber is fiber... to the greatest part docsis 3 allows them to share the channel Now imagine getting a cable modem say with 200MBPS down - 100 up and installing out on a pole somewhere - then bouncing from there to your tower ... voila - WISP made easier ... of course - there are ip considerations - but you get the picture Bob here in Ohio does that w/ the lower level stuff already ;-) I remember working for a large MSO and having a 3COM CMTS (cable modem termination system) that kept crapping out - threw different IOS from a well known provider and competitor - and with a little tweaking - it worked solid for a long long time.
