Dave,
What you could do is once the extraction takes place and nothing
happens, have a look in the temp directory they describe. You may find
the files extracted in such a way that you can copy them to another
location, and run setup.exe (assuming there is a setup.exe in the
extraction).

I just tested this, and it worked fine. Once the extraction happened, I
found a folder called pft887~tmp in my temp directory. I then copied it
to another location. Once copied, I cancelled the installation already
running. In the copied folder, I ran setup.exe, and the installation was
successful. Although I did not have the same problem you did initially.

Hope this helps.

Subject: [WS_FTP Forum] Cannot install (XP)

I have the problem described in:
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WS-20020312-DM02.htm

Basically double-clicking on the downloaded file triggers extracting
files
but the installer doesn't appear. I just get an egg-timer for a few
seconds
then nothing.

However the solutions in the above support page don't work. My Win.Ini
contains nothing like the second solution suggests.

Ipswitch doesn't invite support email unless you've bought the product
and
registered, whereas I'm not going to buy it if I can't install it!
Catch-22.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave
