Just to follow up to this. I left it for a while, but this evening found a Setup for a quite different application also hung. To cut a long story short, the problem was with Creative software/ drivers: http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7781 This might not describe the Setup hanging problem, but solving this solved that too :-)
