WSPR signals are often very weak as low power transmitters are common. 
Also the WSPR transmission algorithm randomizes both the frequency and 
transmission periods so signals are more intermittent than JT65. The 
guard band is designed to encompass all the possible WSPR auto generated 
Tx frequencies.

WSPR-X is dormant at the moment and is not considered a stable branch. 
The mainstream WSPR branch is still the established application.

It should be noted that other JT65 software does allow transmission in 
the WSPR sub band. WSJT-X will decode those signals and you can work 
them if you must by calling them off frequency, they may not be aware 
that the 30M WSPR band overlaps the JT65 sub band so a "PSE QSY DWN" 
might be a good idea as well.

Greg is currently in the process of extending the SDK for better Linux 
usability which will make building WSPR easier, but I believe there are 
binary WSPR packages available for Linux already.
