Richard, Can you tell us the alc meter indication on each of these 1500
-1999 power levels that you describe ?
The alc indication, may provide clues as to whether audio(modulation)
level is a factor ?

Richard, you may have not fully understood the Split operation.
Your actual RF transmit frequency does not change at all. Yes, you
see how the VFO i.e. rig’s transmit frequency is jumping. What you
don’t see is that the audio frequency is changed the same amount
into opposite direction.
No I probably did not explain my idea sufficiently. Of course you'd
have to shift the AF when you jump to VFO B at a different frequency
otherwise you would not be transmitting where you think you are.
What I mean is that instead of trying to decide whether your TX
frequency needs to be shifted if between two AF frequencies, why not
just always set the frequency based on a sweet spot setting.
Currently my TX and RX frequencies are the same when TX AF is >=500Hz
and <2000Hz.
Let's say I want to set my sweet spot to 1500Hz. Then if I want to TX
on 1818Hz then 1818-1500=318Hz offset so my TX frequency would need to
be shifted to 14074.318MHz.
(hopefully I did the math right but you should get the idea).
