Betty,
In 1.0, it was a stand-alone server.   In 1.1, it is either an embedded
server or it is an XML-RPC server using Tomcat.

What you are going to have to do is get the latest code from CVS.
If you go to the Apache Web Site, they have instructions on how
to get Xindice.   When you do that, there will be a build.bat.
I believe we are getting close to a 1.1 beta release, which
should do all of this for you.   However, you will still have to
install Tomcat.
