Alan, Per your comments, I've filed Bug 3141 at defect.opensolaris.org to request the upgrade to Xorg 7.4, and review/testing of DRM 2.31 and Mesa 7.1/7.2 compatibility/compliance with Sun Xorg 7.x implementation(s).
