I asked for Xorg 7.4 as a prelude of the release of it. Alan is already aware
of the issue of Mesa 7.1 integration as well as other things. I know this. Yet,
many people are trying to get things, like device drivers, working with the
current Sun implementation of Xorg. There are things we have not even talked
about or dwelved into - much in the scope of this forum but "out of reach" for
those not familar with Sun's XSun/Xorg history.
Not this not a forum for flame wars, but an attempt to fix or just report on
long-standing issues with Sun's Xorg (or even XSun) or maybe even current
issues - as you yet stated yourself of issues you've had with things that seem
so simple.
Alan has stated that XSun is over. Good. I mainly said in the bug report that
we are now at the crossroads where some of us want to explore new worlds with
things like Mesa 7.x, ATI R500/R600, and Intel 2.4.x support and development on
OpenSolaris. Once Alan corrected me on things to come with his work on Xserver
1.5/Mesa 7.1 (which I knew already), I did say I'll await Sun's Xorg 7.4
implementation into IPS. The bug report was just for tracking purposes -
nothing more but what it states.
But I understand your point and respect it. Quoth the raven, 'nevermore.'
