Eish comrades.. I feel tears in my eyes when you touch this subject... if I go
down memory lane it was around 1995/6 when in our campus this discussion took
place... well I must say that some of us remained battered and bruised when we
raise the view that SASCO must lead the institutions but emotions aside..

The problem with student politics is that it has been infiltrated by a mob
psycho mentality. How do other MDM structures do their political work remains a
challenge.. but space need to be provided..

I remain..

I still hold on into the view that only SASCO should be organising at

institutions of higher learning, the others may only exists for the other

agendas but SASCO should lead students governance. These problems now

basically indicates that having alliance partners of the PYA competing in SRC

elections may in the long run reduce the struggle of students to narrow

interests of individuals lining up for their own agendas rather that that of

the whole students society.

I must admit the point that you are raising is very key and when I think

about it it saddenes my heart. I maintain a view that the streath of the PYA

is predicated upon a solid Sasco, ANC youth L and YCL. the YCL, ANC YL and

Sasco I'm of the view must stll maintain their autonomy. I say this because

ideologically these structures have healty diffrences and healthy

similarities. The struggle is one, the bureaucratic, arrogant and capitalist

tendencies that we see from the manangement of these Institutions of higher

learning. Politics, clubs and societies which give the students a voice are

slowly suffocating though I hope they will not cease to exist. We only have

ourselves to blame because of these foreighn tendencies.

the view that you have raised i will still put on emphasis a key and sad. We

really need to breath back life to our PYA.

What is happening within our institutions of Higher learning within the PYA

is not healthy for the future of our student politics. I'm a part time

student in one of the universities in the Eastern Cape and what is happening

is really worrying. Sasco and the YCL branch in this institution, seem to be

in competition when it comes to the issues that face the institution. The YCL

campus branch is disputing the fact that Sasco must, as a principle, lead the

institutions of higher learning. What is happening now, is that you get

groups that associate themselves with Sasco,YCL,ANYCL with the end result

definately undesirable. The strange thing cmrds, is that the difference

within these groups is not ideological, it is preference of individual

leaders.

The YCL and the ANCYL should, in my opinion, act to reinforce SASCO and to

provide political guidance to the organisation. SASCO must remain the leader

of the PYA within our universities,Technikon and FET colleges with the

ANCYL,YCL providing guidance instead of acting to undermine SASCO. I call on

the ANCYL and the YCL to provide guidance, political support to the student

body and to influence the actions of SASCO, not to undermine them, therein

confusing the rest of the students, who desparetely need to be politisised.
