Comrades perhaps the problem is not with the organisation of Lembede or that of
Ruth First, operating on campus but it is about how we have set up these
organisation in relation to SASCO. I strongly hold a view that there is a need
for the political organisations such as the YCL and ANC YL in our campuses.

The mobilisation of SASCO in campuses is limited only to students and this
sometimes limit the manner in which it fights for the transformation of these
institutions. The ANC YL and YCL on the other hand organise young people and
these can include a number of students from the SASCO membership, general
workers, administrative workers and academic young working people. NEHAWU
exists
in these institutions to mobilise workers but it sometimes faces problem in
organising young workers the role of the ANC YL and YCL can be very central in
this regard.

These organisation thus can grow to be an embodiment of the worker student
alliance in institutions of higher learning . This is not in any way a
dissolution of the SASC O/NEHAWU student alliance as it still needs to exist as
the mobilisation of both the organisation of Lembede and First will be limited
to young workers.

This means both these organisation should know and understand their existence,
particularly the fact that they first cannot contest SRC Elections as it is a
terrain of students and they secondly cannot, by their own, enter salary
negotiation, unless invited by NEHAWU as this is its terrain. If we could move
from this angle there would be no confusion.

The problem with how things have happened is that both these organisations are
now centred on organising students, which is why there is a problem, because
SASCO already organises students. When two organisation are mobilising the same
constituency, you are likely to get oppositionist tendencies developing amongst
them

I still hold on into the view that only SASCO should be organising at
institutions of higher learning, the others may only exists for the other
agendas but SASCO should lead students governance. These problems now
basically
indicates that having alliance partners of the PYA competing in SRC elections
may in the long run reduce the struggle of students to narrow interests of
individuals lining up for their own agendas rather that that of the whole
students society.

I must admit the point that you are raising is very key and when I think about
it it saddenes my heart. I maintain a view that the streath of the PYA is
predicated upon a solid Sasco, ANC youth L and YCL. the YCL, ANC YL and Sasco
I'm of the view must stll maintain their autonomy. I say this because
ideologically these structures have healty diffrences and healthy similarities.
The struggle is one, the bureaucratic, arrogant and capitalist tendencies that
we see from the manangement of these Institutions of higher learning. Politics,
clubs and societies which give the students a voice are slowly suffocating
though I hope they will not cease to exist. We only have ourselves to blame
because of these foreighn tendencies.

the view that you have raised i will still put on emphasis a key and sad. We
really need to breath back life to our PYA.
