No upstream versioning
Hello, I'm wishing to package ipad-charge[0] for Debian.[1] The only problem I appear to be having is that the upstream don't version their uploads. I've emailed the developer a few days ago but haven't received a response so far. I'm wondering what I should version it as if I do not receive a reply from the upstream developer? Create an issue on github to tag his releases. There was an issue reported about a year ago with regards about versioning (https://github.com/mkorenkov/ipad_charge/issues/24) however there was no replies. If that doesn't work, another possibility would be to create a mock version number based on the date, for example MMDD.{7-digit-commit-ID}. [opensuse-marketing] User Days/Open Week
Hello everybody, Seeing as Ubuntu User Days and Open Week are coming up I have a idea for the openSUSE community to do something too. The idea of User Days and Open Week are that people run IRC based session about it like using Firefox, switching from another OS, and others. User Days should run over 1 weekend and try to have a session every hour like https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UserDaysTeam/natty starting with a intro about User Days. Open Week would happen a week or two before a new release and should focus on the previous release as it turns it into the new *stable* release. Thinking this would require a team of at least 3 or 4 people with monthly meetings and I am more then happy to lead the team if the community does not object. So I send this email for approval for this and your opinion. === Thank you very much, Ben Donald-Wilson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscr...@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+h...@opensuse.org

Re: [Tutor] Assigning range
You could start with an anonymous function using the lambda operator, such as: mid_range = lambda x: x[len(x) // 2] Note: If you use len(x) / 2 in python 3.x you will get a TypeError because the division operator / returns a float. Floor // returns an int in 2.x and 3.x. Then use either: x = range(1000, 4001) mid_x = mid_range(x) # mid_x == 2500 or… mid_x = mid_range(range(500, 751)) # mid_x == 625 etc. to retrieve the middle element. You can extract the mid point of any sequence type, such as a string, using this function. mid_x = mid_range(‘12345678987654321’) # mid_x == ‘9’ middle_number = lambda lo, hi: abs(lo - hi) // 2 will work if you just need the mid point of two numbers; either ints or floats. mid_x = middle_number(0, 1000) # mid_x = 500 DW On Jul 27, 2011, at 8:16 PM, Alexander Quest wrote: Does anyone know how to assign a certain numerical range to a variable, and then choose the number that is the middle of that range? For example, I want to assign the variable X a range between 1 and 50, and then I want to have the middle of that range (25) return with some command when I call it (perhaps rangemid or something like that?). In pseudocode, I am trying to say X = range [1,50], return middle of range (which should return 25) but I don't know how to code it. This is for a basic program I'm trying to write where the player thinks of a number and the computer tries to guess the number in as few tries as possible. It has been requested so that it is easier to keep up to date with the team happenings than email alone. The results of mailing list and the meeting discussion are as follows: Facebook - stick to the group setting and we have Joel Addison volunteering to work out how to input an Ical feed into the group page as events. And as such I have added Joel to administer the facebook account to facilitate this for us as automating it is vital to maintaining the same information across multiple sources with minimal input. Twitter - we have set up an account https://twitter.com/#!/UbuntuAU Identica - I realise we already have a group for this but from discussions we've decided it would be better to set up an individual account as this will allow posting from the account to all followers which apparently isn't possible from a group. It will also tie in nicely with the twitter account and as such is available at http://identi.ca/ubuntuau I have had this account join the group that already existed to see if this reduces confusion and it has integrated to the twitter api. The idea of these groups is not to continually spam members but to provide relevant loco information. For example reminders about upcoming events, meetings and anything specifically loco related. If you have information that you think should be sent out over these channels please feel free to contact me via email or on IRC. Re: 10.04 and USB 3.0
Hi Dave, I would use the exFAT format because by the sounds of it your using it on Win 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. The exFAT format supports Win 7 and with the ppa:relan/exfat ppa in Ubuntu you can read write to a exFAT format. Just to let you know you need to format the drive in Win 7 for exFAT as the ppa does not support formating yet. == Ben Donald-Wilson (Age 12) == On Tue, Apr 26, 2011 at 08:30, David ag...@justemail.net wrote: and thanks IK -- ubuntu-au mailing list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-au
Re: Shall we hide the GUI for Hibernate in Natty?
I like the idea but instead of tweaking the /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla line then maybe add a GUI to show what buttons the user wants to show in the shutdown chocies. Thanks, Benny Age 12. On 01/02/2011, Rick Spencer rick.spen...@canonical.com wrote: Hello all, This email is to get some feedback and discussion about an idea under consideration for Ubuntu in Natty. Natty is currently NOT showing the Hibernate option in the list of shutdown choices. This is currently an experiment, but I thought it might be worth discussing the pros and cons on these lists as well. The reasoning for hiding Hibernate includes: 1. It doesn't work well for many users on many machines. 2. It's very slow. 3. It's not as useful because users can just suspend. 4. The difference between hibernate and suspend is confusing. 5. There is a lot of work involved with verifying that Hibernates works and fixing bugs to ensure that it works. This work is not always completed, and the work that does get done can be channeled to other useful areas. (In other words, fewer bugs through fewer features to support). However, Hibernate works well for some users, so this will be a painful regression[1]. Please note that currently: 1. No decision has been taken, it's just an experiment and is very open to discussion at this point. 2. The feature is hidden in the UI, but can be turned back on by tweaking, /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla 3. The desktop team decided that session saving (in Gnome) is unsalvagable, so removing hibernate would mean that there is no way to save state across powerdowns/powerups.[2] So, thoughts, discussion, feedback, options, suggestions, rants, raves, etc... ?
