Lots of org.jenkinsci.remoting.util.AnonymousClassWarnings in agent logs

2018-03-27 Thread Matthew.Webber
Recently, I've been seeing warnings in the Agent logs that look like this:

Mar 27, 2018 8:11:53 AM org.jenkinsci.remoting.util.AnonymousClassWarnings warn
WARNING: Attempt to (de-)serialize anonymous class hudson.FilePath$26; see:
https://jenkins.io/redirect/serialization-of-anonymous-classes/

Various different classes are mentioned. Looking that the referenced web page,
it's not clear to me what I should do. Should I open a ticket for each class?
Or this being followed up anyhow?

Thanks
Matthew

RE: SonarCube pluging not working.

2016-10-12 Thread Matthew.Webber
If you google for “Unsupported major.minor version 52.0” you’ll find the answer
to that – you have class files compiled with one Java version (probably some
pre-compiled .jars you got from somewhere), but you are running under a
different Java version ( the class files are probably Java 8, and you are
trying to run using Java 6 or 7).
As far as the deprecated issue is concerned, I can’t comment, sorry.

RE: Jenkins job triggered by gerrit vote

2016-09-14 Thread Matthew.Webber
It is possible to trigger a job when a Gerrit comment is added, although that
is not how it is normally set up. There is no trigger event for just voting.
If you are having a problem with a specific job, you need to look at the
configuration for the job to see when it is triggered.
If this is a general question, then the answer is no, you will not get
unnecessary jobs triggered.

I am thinking is this possible that Jenkins job will be triggered by someone
voting?
For example, one reviewer gives plus 1, and then jenkins could trigger the job.
sometimes it will reduce many unnecessary jobs triggered.

RE: CAS plugin with Jenkins 2

2016-08-10 Thread Matthew.Webber
I use the CAS plugin v1.2.0 using CAS protocol 2.0, and Jenkins 2.17.
We have not had any CAS-related issues (never, I think).
However, we run our Jenkins on http (not https), using the embedded web server

Did you have this working, and then it broke, or are you trying to set it up
for the first time?

I'm having troubles with the CAS plugin.

The plugin will redirect me to my CAS server. When I authenticate on the CAS
server, I get redirected to jenkins.
Now I should be logged in, but I'm not.

I get redirected to
https://jenkins01/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fjenkins01%2FsecurityRealm%2FfinishLogin
... which seems like Jenkins protects the finishLogin page.

Does anyone has the CAS plugin (CAS 2.0 protocol) working with Jenkins >2.9? (I
tested with 2.9 and 2.17)

Plus it would be helpful if someone could guide me to what Loggers on which
Levels I should listen to. Now I either get noise or nothing.

Roles -> Assign roles tab, I have 160 users for Global Roles and 160 users for
Project Roles. When I tried to add 161th user to the Project Roles, it threw a
"FormContentSize" error. But I was able to add when I removed an existing
inactive user. So my question here is does this plugin has the limitation of
users to 160/320, if yes how can we bump the number of users.

Hi,

I've got an odd problem setting up a Jenkins server and i was just wondering if
anybody could suggest a solution. I've set up 3 jobs on my server:

1. Build-Application - a typical Jenkins job that downloads code from SCM
builds it and run the Unit tests. The generated artifacts are archived. Then...
2. Deploy-Application - take the archived artifacts, Ssh them to a Linux server
and run an installation script. Then...
3. Functional-Tests - Run the functional tests.

Since step 3 has a very low load on the server but can take a couple of hours,
I've set up a second executor on the Jenkins server. This way fresh commit in
the SCM will be pulled and tested quickly.

The trouble is that the Deploy-Application job can be triggered by the second
executor while the first one is running Functional-Tests. This causes the
functional tests to failing because we've pulled down the environment while
they were running.

Is there a way of blocking the Deploy-Application so that it can't run while
Functional-Tests are in progress?

Cheers!

RE: Trigger Parameterized Builds plugin with Environment Injector Plugin not working

2016-06-03 Thread Matthew.Webber
When reporting problems or asking questions, it’s often a good idea to let
folks know what release you are on. Think about what you would need to know if
someone asked this question of you.

So, did you upgrade to Jenkins 2.3?
If not, what changed?
If so, did you read

 and

Subject: Trigger Parameterized Builds plugin with Environment Injector Plugin
not working

This is something that has worked for months and has now stopped.

Build A is triggering build B. The trigger works.

Using the Trigger Parameterized Builds plugin in build A, I set a predefined
parameter like:

MY_PARAMETER=

Then in build B I use the Environment Injector Plugin as follows:

MY_ENVIRONMENT_VARIABLE = $MY_PARAMETER

This doesn't work anymore, if I echo MY_ENVIRONMENT_VARIABLE in my build script
it is set to "$MY_PARAMETER" not the value of $MY_PARAMETER.

Would be grateful for any insight.

Dealing with job posting spam

2016-05-17 Thread Matthew.Webber
There have been a number of spam postings lately from a "swati rakh" (various
job advertisements).
If sufficient people to go the web interface for this Google Group

postings as spam, that should (in theory) result in future postings from that
person being blocked (until the create a new identity, anyhow).

Hi again,

just found this JIRA issue: https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-12128

There it is clearly stated that these variables are exposed. Now I don't

Hi all,

I've made the step to upgrading our jenkins server from 1632 to 2.3.whatever
(hooray!) and everything seems to work fine except one thing:

looks like environment variable $MVN_RELEASE_VERSION is not set during the
build when using the M2 release plugin. I don't know how or why it was set
(didn't find any documentation about that) but what I know is that it used to
work in 1.632 (we relied on this magic setting where we found the release
version number)

Now I don't want it back, I just want to know who was responsible for setting

anybody shed sone light on this here please?

Thanks for your time,

RE: How can we use a variable for E-mail Notification Recipients field of a job ?

2016-04-20 Thread Matthew.Webber
We use variables exactly as per your method (1), and it just works. Syntax is
${DAQ_MX_email_list}.
You’re going to need to give us a bit more info about your configuration.
What release of Jenkins are your running? Are you using the regular mailer, or
the extended email plugin?
Sorry to ask, but I assume that you have checked the spelling or the variable
name.

Can I suggest adding a build step that does an echo “$mail_list”? You need to
work out whether the problem is that the variable is not set, or whether it is
set, but the mailer is not picking it up.

Hope that helps

RE: Conditional Step Regular Expression Match

2016-03-01 Thread Matthew.Webber
As far as I can see, the “Label” is just a string. So
Label=[NAP-Client,NAP-Server] does not try comparing 2 different string with
the regex, it’s simply a single string that happebns to have a comma in the
middle of it. That comma does not means anything special, because this is not a
regex.

So, the first Expression=[.*(NAP-Client|NAP-ALL)+],
Label=[NAP-Client,NAP-Server] example, which you say gives the wrong result:
The regex will match something that ENDS with either NAP-Client or NAP-ALL. The
label does not match that.
I think what you want is .*(NAP-Client|NAP-ALL).* which matches either
NAP-Client or NAP-ALL, surrounded by anything (or nothing).
This is similar to what you first had, except that it ends with “.*” rather
than “*”.

Hope that helps and that I’ve understood correctly what’s going on.

RE: Conditional Step Regular Expression Match

A regex that starts with .* and ends with (opt1|opt2)* will always match all
strings.
I think you want something like .*( opt1|opt2)+ where the trailing + means at
least one thing from opt1|opt2 must be present.

Thanks for the reply Eric! Sorry, the square brackets are just from the
Jenkins output. My regex's look like this (4 single conditional steps based on
the label passed in build.apps):

.*(NAP-Client|NAP-ALL)*
.*(NAP-Server|NAP-ALL)*
.*(NAP-Reports|NAP-ALL)*
.*(CAS|NAP-ALL)*

In this particular case, I passed in build.apps='NAP-Client,NAP-Server'

So it should go in and trigger the build associated with these two regex's.
But what it does is go into all 4 and build them. I'm guessing I could put
anything at all in the Label and it would match for all of these conditions
because of a mistake I'm making in my regex.

Thanks,
Eric

WARNING: Matrix Authorization Strategy Plugin 1.3 broken (was: RE: matrix-auth plugin update failure)

2016-02-23 Thread Matthew.Webber
Yes, I had this problem.
I upgraded “Matrix Authorization Strategy Plugin” to 1.3, and “CloudBees
Folders Plugin” to 5.2.1, both of which just became available.
The result was that Jenkins would not ever start.
I’ll update the ticket!

RE: Integration Jenkins with SSO enabled JIRA

2016-02-11 Thread Matthew.Webber
When you say “our own SSO authentication”, do you mean a system you wrote
yourself?

We use CAS for SSO, and there is a Jenkins plugin for it -
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/CAS+Plugin
If you have your own SSO, you might want to look at the source code for that.

My condition for a build step is:

Why is this? Am I referencing the WORKSPACE variable incorrectly?

Hi

I am using the multi-branch plugin to run a job on multiple branches and the
trunk. I want to add a conditional build step that is only executed on the
trunk. So I’m thinking of adding a conditional build step that uses a regular
expression to check whether $WORKSPACE contains ‘trunk’. I guess the regular
expression would be something like:

Expression: ${ENV,var="WORKSPACE"}
Label: trunk

But that isn’t right. What would I specify please?

Best regards

RE: Matrix Authorization Strategy Plugin - max number of user entries?

2015-11-18 Thread Matthew.Webber
I’m don’t know whether that setting will solve the problem or not (it depends
on what “maxed out” means: was there an error message or traceback? When
reporting problems, it often a good idea to provide specific details about what
happened when the error occurred.)

If you do want to change the setting from the default, then you need to specify
it on the command line that starts Jenkins; it’s not exposed in the UI.
Something like:

java -Dorg.eclipse.jetty.server.Request.maxFormContentSize=500 -jar
jenkins.war

You can also search the Jenkins bug tracker at
https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/projects/JENKINS for maxFormContentSize

"discard old builds" setting disappeared

2015-11-12 Thread Matthew.Webber
Just a heads up: If you are running Jenkins 1.637 and look at the job
configuration for a job which had "Discard old builds" set, the setting is no
longer there ("Discard old builds" is _un_ticked).

The job's config.xml file itself is ok, and I found that reverting to 1.634
fixed the problem. I have not tested any other versions.

RE: How to solve this error in jenkins.

2015-08-20 Thread Matthew.Webber
Vineet,
If you want people to help you, you need to ask your questions in a better way.
(1) If you have text that you want to show us, paste it into your email as text
– don’t attach it as an image, since that means no-one can copy/paste lines
from the text.
(2) Don’t just give an error message without any context – explain what you
were trying to do when the error happened.
If it looks like you have not made any effort yourself, people on this list are
unlikely to help you. Sorry to be blunt.

RE: Jenkins 1.625 has no release note?

2015-08-19 Thread Matthew.Webber
When I saw no major user-visible changes, I thought that user referred just
to Jenkins users (rather than Jenkins administrators), and hence to me the
message meant no major UI nor behaviour changes.

A major refactor might have no major user-visible changes, but would be
high-risk. So, the existing message tells you about the anticipated effect of
putting on the new release, but does not tell you about the size of the
changes. I might be the only one to mis-read the message, but otherwise, maybe
a clearer message would be something like Only trivial changes in this
release.

Hope that helps.

Thanks
Matthew

1.625 has not actually been uploaded, and the tag in Git is possibly off as
well (several commits from the weekend are missing). I'm
hoping to grab KK today to find out what happened. As long as this is
unresolved, the changelog needs to wait.

This weird kind of entry was also done for the 1.623 release, although
someone retrofitted the changelog to state “No major user-
visible changes in this release.”, whatever that is supposed to mean.

It means there are no major user-visible changes. (See below.)

If there are no changes, why was it released?

Jenkins is released weekly. I'd hope that KK finds the time to check whether
there are actually changes scheduled before doing a
release, but at least for 1.623 this obviously didn't happen. Notably, it
hasn't been necessary to do so in years AFAICT, as there was
always something that could be mentioned.

The changelog is supposed to be there to show why the users should upgrade
to it or skip it, and these notes obviously fail that
test. The smallest changes should always be noted.

Let's roleplay: You're in charge of the changelog. 1.623 has been released
(you're not in charge of that), and you're looking for what
needs to be mentioned in the changelog. This is the diff to the previous
 release:

 https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/compare/jenkins-1.622...jenkins-1.623

So, what do you post? That @Nonnull annotations were added to the
hudson.model.Result class? That a logging level was changed
from FINE to FINER? That a class that was never used and never part of the
 public API has been removed?

I decided to just write that there are no notable user-visible changes.

It wouldn't take long for the complaints to come in if we actually mentioned
*everything* that gets changed in the changelog.

RE: Jenkins CI with repo

2015-08-06 Thread Matthew.Webber
Hi Harisha,
If we have changes across multiple repositories that need to be tested
together, our developers push them to the Gerrit review queue and specify a
Gerrit topic (push to refs/for/master%topic=ABC). All related changes have the
same topic.

The test jobs in Jenkins that are normally auto-triggered on a Gerrit push have
a filter so that they do not run if a topic is specified. Instead, when changes
have been pushed to all repositories for review, the developer then goes to
Jenkins and manually triggers a special test job, specifying the topic to test.
That job runs some python code that queries Gerrit to find out what changes in
what repositories belong to the topic, and fetches them all, so they can be
tested together. At the end of the job, there is some more python code to post
back Verified +1or -1 to Gerrit, for all the changes.

Our scripts are fairly bespoke to our environment, but you could borrow the
general idea.

Note: In all our jobs, the checkout from Git repositories is done in a build
job step, not using the Jenkins Git SCM.

Hope that helps.

Subject: Jenkins CI with repo

Hi,

I have started using Jenkins + Gerrit + Repo combination for CI.

The issues faced by me is:
Many times for a bug / feature fixing happens over multiple git repositories.
But Jenkins picks up each git fix as a separate and try to build and run the
test cases, which again ends up in failure.

I have seen in old mails in mailing list that this is not possible.
Just wanted to check if some body has suggestions for this issue.

[ Hope this is the right forum!! ]

may happen once in a while.

Discard only some artifacts?

2015-08-06 Thread Matthew.Webber
I'm aware of the options for keeping old builds but deleting old artifacts.
I have a slightly different requirement: I want to delete _some_ of the
artifacts from old builds, but keep the builds themselves plus some of the
artifacts.
My artifacts comprise some large binaries (which I don't need to keep for very
long), plus a few text files describing the build, which need to be kept (along
with the build log, test results etc).

At the moment, we have a bash script that runs nightly and deletes the large
artifacts according to some rule.
Can anyone suggest a more Jenkins-ish way of doing this?

Thanks
Matthew

instance kicks it off ?

Hi All

We have 1 hudson instance named A with job name local
We have 1 jenkins instance named B with job name remote.

We set up local job such that remote job can kick off the local job.
Is there a parameter in local job that we can check that the local job of
instance A was kicked off by remote job of instance B ?

Thank you.

RE: Forcing another job to run immediately on same node

2015-07-20 Thread Matthew.Webber
I don’t think there is any way of doing this. Can you explain what you are
trying to achieve?

If your idea is that Job B will reference the workspace from Job A, then in
Jenkins that’s an anti-pattern. The correct approach in that case is for Job A
to archive some artifacts, and then Job B retrieve them.

You can make job B run on the same node as job A, but only if both jobs are
tied to exactly one node, which is presumably not what you wanted.

Subject: Forcing another job to run immediately on same node

I am trying to break up a job into two smaller jobs, which I'll call jobA and
jobB.

I want jobB to run *immediately* after jobA, and on the same node, just like
they did when they were the same job.

I can use use the Parameterized Trigger plugin to make jobA trigger jobB on the
same node.

However, this triggering of jobB doesn't force it to run immediately. If there
are other jobs in the queue, then jobB will just be put on the end of the queue.

How can I force jobB to always run immediately after jobA, and on the same node?

RE: Strange issue with copy artifact plugin not copying everything

2015-06-19 Thread Matthew.Webber
The first step is to determine whether the problem is that the files are not
being archived in the upstream job, or whether they are archived but then not
subsequently retrieved by the CopyArtifact plugin in the downstream job. Look
on the Jenkins master itself, in
Jenkins_home/jobs/upstream-job-name/builds/build-number/archive/.

We use archive and CopyArtifact a lot, and I have never seen anything like
this. Have you checked that your path specifications are all correct?

Subject: Strange issue with copy artifact plugin not copying everything

I am seeing a strange behavior with the Copy Artifact Plugin version 1.35.1

I have a job that creates some shared objects and some include headers.
Those files are archived as artifacts and in another job use the Copy
Artifact build step to copy them.

The console says 18 files were copied, but in fact only 15 are present.
The same 3 are always missing. Weirder still, if I configure the second
job to NOT clean the workspace, the second time you run the build the
files will be copied. In fact I can configure the job to copy the same
artifacts twice to work around the issue.

I assume this is a bug in the plugin though I can't begin to speculate
what is going wrong, I use the plugin for other things and never have had
 issues.

Anyone else seen this strange behavior or have thoughts on the matter?

 Thomas

RE: How can I get a promotion to run on the same host?

2015-05-26 Thread Matthew.Webber
It sounds like you want the promotion job to be reading files from the
workspace of the parent build that is being promoted.
If so, that’s the wrong way to do it. From
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Promoted+Builds+Plugin:

Do not rely on files in the workspace
The promotion action uses the workspace of the job as the current directory
(and as such the execution of the promotion action is mutually exclusive from
any on-going builds of the job.) But by the time promotion runs, this workspace
can contain files from builds that are totally unrelated from the build being
promoted.
To access the artifacts, use the Copy Artifact Plugin and choose the permalink.

Subject: How can I get a promotion to run on the same host?

I have a problem where a build runs on one Jenkins machine, and then I do a
manual promotion. The manual promotion runs on a different machine than the
build that I am promoting, so of course the directories and files constructed
by the build do not exist on the second machine. The promotion fails
immediately as a result.

How can I get the promotion to respect the host to run on?

If I set the “Restrict where this promotion process can be run” checkbox, then
the comment states that “If not set, the label of the promoted build will be
used”, which is extremely poor wording that I interpret as it should stay on
the same host as the build that I’m promoting. Unfortunately, it will not
stick unless I enter a hostname, so it too is useless. If I enter the matching
hostname to the box that the build was run on, then it works, but realistically
prevents me from using any slave machines.

Is this multipole bugs in the Jenkins 1.612 promotion mechanism, or am I
missing something?

1.611 not offered for update

2015-04-28 Thread Matthew.Webber
According to the Jenkins changelog http://jenkins-ci.org/changelog, Jenkins
1.611 has been out for a few days now.
However, my Jenkins is only offering me an upgrade to 1.610 (I'm currently on

Now makes no difference.

Does someone need to do something additional to make the release visible?

If some of the files remain unchanged then it can be done more
efficently when you NOT pack the files. You could for example create a
respository (SVN) for artifacts and instead of copying all files you
would simple run `svn update` and get only changed files. Another option
would be using rsync for synchronisation but that might not work as good
 as SVN would.

That's quite a security issue and generally not recommended.
As a compromise, if it's required as part of a job, could use the Password
Parameter option and have the user re-enter it.

RE: How to make copy artifact plugin copy multiple artifact from jobs dynamically

The copy artifact does _not_ copy from the workspace, it only copies the
artifacts that Jenkins saves.
You can copy saved artifacts from as many different jobs as you want – you just
need multiple “copy artifacts” steps.

RE: Stop builds for a period of the day

2015-03-02 Thread Matthew.Webber
Just be aware that jobs that are scheduled to run during that period are still
scheduled, and you see them waiting in the Build Queue.

Also, be careful if you have slaves configured “take this slave on-line when in
demand, and off-line when idle”. If you have a job that Is tied to a particular
slave, then when the job is put in the build queue, the slave will be taken
online even if Jenkins is in “prepare for shutdown” state.

Gerrit Trigger plugin - detect when number of failing tests has INCREASED

2015-01-12 Thread Matthew.Webber
I've just started experimenting with the Gerrit Trigger Plugin. It's great, but
I have one problem:

If the build job is UNSTABLE (i.e. if any tests fail) Jenkins will post this
status back to Gerrit, and flag the Gerrit patchset as not passing. That
strategy only works if the normal condition is all tests pass.

In my case, there is a test case, unrelated to the patchset under test, that
has been failing for some time. I'd like the Gerrit trigger to only mark the
patchset being tested if introduces a NEW test failure. Is there a way to
achieve this?

(Yes I do now that having failing tests that have not been fixed is poor
practice, but in a large test suite, that is sometimes the case).

Thanks
Matthew

Hello,

if a failed build follows follows on a successful build, the successful build

Jenkins problem with clocks going back?

2014-10-27 Thread Matthew.Webber
This morning, checking the Manage Jenkins page, it said:

Some projects have builds whose timestamps are inconsistent. These will
confuse Jenkins when it tries to look up build records.
There is a link to http://jenkins-ci.org/issue/18289.

What happened is that the clocks went back (end of summer time), which means
jobs scheduled in the duplicated hour ran twice, and some of the later runs
were at an earlier wall-clock time than the previous. Hence Jenkins gets
confused.

It's not a big problem for us (it might be more of a problem for others), but
any suggestions as to how to handle this in future? Should this be considered a
Jenkins bug?

I added a comment about this case to
https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-22106 @midnight is vulnerable to
DST witching hours

RE: Jenkins problem with clocks going back?

2014-10-27 Thread Matthew.Webber
As the originator of this thread, thanks for your responses. We're on Linux, so
the Windows concerns thankfully don’t apply.

As stated, the usual way to handle this kind of thing is for the server to keep
time in UTC, and the application converts to local time for display etc.
purposes. The application, in this case, is Jenkins, and it doesn’t look like
it really handles this properly - it does everything in local time, and gets
confused with the summer time change.

Generally, local time in the Jenkins interface is what _I_ want. When I write
a job schedule, I want the times to be local -I think of a job as running at
10pm local time, and not the UTC equivalent.

Other Jenkins installations may have different requirements as well, of course.
Users and slaves can be in a different time zone to the master.

RE: Can we print Master name in slave machine

2014-10-15 Thread Matthew.Webber
I’m quite confused about what it is exactly you are asking for. Are you asking
for the name of the master machine, or the name of a job, or the name of an
upstream job?
When you say “I need to find out who is running”, what do you mean? Does you
project need to find out its own name?
Can you answer my previous question: “When you say you want to print the
“master name”, what exactly do you want to print?” Provide some sample output.

I don't quite understand why one would need this, but I suppose if you have a

RE: ask for files before build

2014-10-15 Thread Matthew.Webber
You can't prompt for a file in a build step, since at that point there is no
user to ask! The jobs is already running.
If you want to prompt a user, then the only point it makes sense to do that is
when the job is started - Mark's suggestion tells you how to do that.

Perhaps you can explain more what you are trying to achieve here. Do you want
to test changes before they are checked in? Or something else? What's in the
file you want the user to upload?

Subject: Disabling archiving artifacts

Hi,

I have a job, in which I use Artifactory for storing artifacts. I don't
particularly care about archiving artifacts and would prefer to turn it off as
it serves no purpose for me.

I tried setting the following configuration when archiving:

Files to archive: (blank)
Excludes: **
(check) Do not fail build if archiving returns nothing
(check) Use default excludes

However this causes this output:

20:44:09 ERROR: No artifacts are configured for archiving.

20:44:09 You probably forgot to set the file pattern, so please go back to the
configuration and specify it.

20:44:09 If you really did mean to archive all the files in the workspace,
please specify **

20:44:09 Build step 'Archive the artifacts' changed build result to FAILURE

I'm on Jenkins 1.579. I'm not sure why it would be complaining about this, as
I'd rather have it off.

I see the same thing; Fri 26/Sep/2014 08:40 UTC from south-east England.

The server is up enough to return 503 temporarily unavailable, so it may be

RE: Upgrade woes (1.579)

2014-09-09 Thread Matthew.Webber
If you look at the Jenkins changelog at http://jenkins-ci.org/changelog and
click on Community Ratings, you can get some idea as to how other Jenkins
sites are finding the new release.
The Jenkins bug tracker is at https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS
where you can search for and report issues.

Subject: Upgrade woes (1.579)

Hi

I would be grateful for some advice on recent versions of Jenkins.

Yesterday, I upgraded from Jenkins 1.570 to 1.579, and upgraded nearly all the
plugins I use (including Timestamper). We run our Jenkins master on Centos 6.

A few hours later Jenkins crashed:

#
# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x003206a08e65, pid=29576, tid=4736574872
#
# JRE version: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (7.0_60-b19) (build 1.7.0_60-b19)

I can't recall seeing this before.

Jenkins is critical for our development environment so I would back to 1.570,
leaving the plugins at their new versions. All seems fine now except that, on
the dashboard, the icons don't animate / flash as they used to.

Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed please? Should I report the
crash? Are there known problems with 1.579? What should I do about the broken
animation?

Best regards

David

RE: Spawning process in a job seems to be non working

2014-09-03 Thread Matthew.Webber
My guess is that ant.env(key:'BUILD_ID',value:'DO_NOT_STOP_MY_PROCESS_JENKINS')
sets the environment variable in the spawned process, but not in the parent

That value needs to be visible to the Jenkins process.

Reason:
It looks like that email address has an auto responder, which means that some

RE: Mailer plugin

2014-07-29 Thread Matthew.Webber
I haven’t looked at the code, but it makes sense that emails be sent from the
master.

In the Jenkins configuration, you specify the SMTP server to use, and that is a
global setting. If email was sent from slaves, then you would need to be able
to configure the SMTP server on a slave –by-slave basis (an SMTP server that is
accessible from the master might not be from all slaves).

As an update, in sending a couple test emails the headers indicate that it's
internally getting passed back to the master to send out to the SMTP server,
but rather than relying on just my looking at the headers I'd prefer someone
who knows the logic flow for the mailer plugin to confirm that emails always
get routed back to the master to send.

Any comments on the UI changes in 1.572

2014-07-18 Thread Matthew.Webber
I noticed that according to the changelog (http://jenkins-ci.org/changelog),
Jenkins 1.572 is the first stage of a UI redesign.
Has anyone installed that, and if so, what did you think?
We haven't upgraded yet, but would be prepared to in order that we can provide
feedback - provided the first attempt 1.572 is still usable .

RE: Can Jenkins forget passwords?

If a job requires credentials tied to a particular user scope, are those
credentials accessible if the job is timer-triggered? Triggered by an upstream

I really like the credentials work you’ve done, Stephen, but there are lot of

Well if the parameters are credentials, e.g. using the
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Credentials+Binding+Plugin and the
user has tied the credentials to their own user account scope, then the only
credentials available to the build will be the global credentials and those of
the user triggering the build.

RE: svn update work on running client from JNLP but not as Windows service

2014-06-13 Thread Matthew.Webber
If you are issuing any svn command from an environment where there is no user
to prompt, I suggest using the global option
svn --non-interactive
That means it will never hang waiting for a prompt. Instead, it will fail, and
the output will tell you what happened.

Subject: svn update work on running client from JNLP but not as Windows service

Hello,

I tried to find an answer in the list but I did not find what is wrong.
Probably is a stupid thing...

The job only execute a command svn update in my Windows 8.1 machine:

a) If I start the client from JNLP file, the job is executed.

b) If I install it as service, it holds waiting... waiting for password maybe?

D:\AAA\ntsvn update

Updating '.':

then after 5 minutes I decide to abort the job:

Build was aborted

Aborted by anonymoushttp://jenkins.oe.com/user/anonymous

Finished: ABORTED

Stopping the service, executing a mandatory svn cleanup from an independent
cmd, and launching again from JNLP, works like a charm.

Why the svn update command does not work from service? Where to read to
understand how Jenkins works on this mode?

Notes:
1) My user is defined in a domain server, not in my local machine. For that I
configured the service to use my specific user@domain and password.
2) I'm using Pagent.exe, all svn commands (checkout, update, commit, status..)
from my cmd.exe work well.
3) The command svn status works perfect from JNLP and from Service.
4) Seems that the connection with Pagent.exe is broken. Printing some
environment variables inside the job I find the expected values:

ALLUSERSPROFILE=C:\ProgramData

APPDATA=C:\Users\jpvogt\AppData\Roaming

BASE=D:\Jenkins

SERVICE_ID=jenkinsslave-D__Jenkins

SVN_SSH=C:/putty/plink.exe

Thanks for your time reading this issue.

Best regards,
JP

RE: Save job configuration returns an Oops page

2014-06-02 Thread Matthew.Webber
I'll have to make that an error condition then, saving a trigger with no
recipient providers selected wouldn't make much sense.
Sometime I might want to set up the trigger conditions and message text now,
and fill out the recipients later (maybe I'm using this a template job). I
don’t see any need to actually prevent this.

RE: a few Jenkins questions

2014-05-29 Thread Matthew.Webber
Jenkins never wraps build numbers, so something has gone badly wrong.

The number of the next build for each job is stored in file
${JENKINS_HOME}/jobs/jobname/nextBuildNumber, with the actual build results
in ${JENKINS_HOME}/jobs/jobname/builds/. You might want to see if that
directory was reverted somehow. Also take a look at the permissions.

If fact, check that what ${JENKINS_HOME} your Jenkins is actually pointing to.
Most likely something in your environment got messed up, and it is not a
Jenkins issue per se.

I have been using Jenkins for a few months now. I've apparently run enough
builds that the build number scheme
used by Jenkins (ex. Project_JUnit #978) has now wrapped around to
Project_Junit #20. These are not the exact
numbers but you get the idea.

Now that I've wrapped around I don't see Last successful build folder being
updated any more. It still has a build
from 8 days ago (when the wrap occurred), and I've had many successful build
since then.

Any idea what could be going on ?? Or how to get around this ??

I am running Jenkins ver 1.550

Why is the LDAP plugin installed?

2014-05-27 Thread Matthew.Webber
According to https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/LDAP+Plugin, the LDAP
plugin was split out from the Jenkins core a long time ago. That doesn't look
to be the case.

I stopped Jenkins, deleted all ldap* from the plugins/ directory, and started
Jenkins (this is 1.564). I see that an old version (1.6) of the ldap plugin has
been expanded into the plugins/ directory, and is listed under Manage Jenkins
-- Plugin Manager.

I'm not using LDAP for authentication. In Manage Jenkins -- Configure Global
Security, I have CAS authentication selected, and _not_ LDAP.

Is it possible that, contrary to the documentation, the LDPS plugin _is_ still
bundled with the Jenkins core?

Thanks
Matthew

RE: Why is the LDAP plugin installed?

2014-05-27 Thread Matthew.Webber
Thanks Daniel. I can obviously disable the plugin, but what was not clear to me
I why it was there in the first place. It probably should be removed from core
- in fact there is already a ticket for this -

It's a plugin that can be updated independently from Jenkins itself, or
disabled. It used to be a part
of Jenkins core, like the 'Execute Shell script' build step or 'freestyle'
 project type are. Try
 disabling those!

For (I assume) mostly backwards compatibility reasons it still gets bundled
 in the .war. This means
you cannot uninstall it, otherwise Jenkins will just restore the bundled
 version again, unless you
patch the Jenkins .war file to remove it completely.

RE: Can't download Subversion plugin 2.4

2014-05-19 Thread Matthew.Webber
I'm having trouble getting a reliable connection to the Jenkins web site, so I
suspect there is a problem at that end.
This is Monday morning UK time (GMT+1).

Hi

I am getting an exception when I try to download Subversion plugin 2.4. Is this
a server failure?

Best regards

No signature block found in downloadable hudson.plugins.groovy.GroovyInstaller

2014-05-19 Thread Matthew.Webber
When I attempt to update the list of available plugins using the Web UI, it
hangs. I see this in the log:

May 19, 2014 4:02:18 PM hudson.model.DownloadService$Downloadable doPostBack
SEVERE: div class=errorimg src='/static/4ef349f5/images/none.gif' height=16
width=1No signature block found in downloadable
#039;hudson.plugins.groovy.GroovyInstaller#039;/div

Does that mean something to someone??

Thanks

RE: Multiple jobs with locks

2014-05-16 Thread Matthew.Webber
The
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Throttle+Concurrent+Builds+Plugin
plugin might do what you want. Define a category to represent the pipeline, and
limit the category to one job only.

From: Renato Rodrigues [mailto:h...@renatorodrigues.me]

Subject: Multiple jobs with locks

Imagine the following scenario as a pipeline:

Job A Job B (Build Flow Job) Job C Job D

Job A is called by a git hook. Job B is a lightweight job that orchestrates
jobs C and D.

This pipeline works well but I just want only one instance of it at a time. So
if, for example, job C is running and the git hook calls a new Job A, first the
pipeline must terminate after completing job D.

I've searched some plugins like Locks and Latches or Exclusion plugin but none
have worked.

RE: Multiple jobs with locks

2014-05-16 Thread Matthew.Webber
Ah, I see. The only thing I can think of is to also use the
https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Priority+Sorter+Plugin so that D
always runs before C, before B, before A. Does that work, or is it fragile /
too complicated?

I'm afraid that your solution doesn't work. If A has already started and a new
A goes to the queue, the moment A ends and starts to run B, the other A on the
queue starts.
