2024-05-07 Thread LLCT Information

Lincoln Station, 145 Lincoln Rd.

New this year-all plants will be available first come, first served.

This year, as part of Lincoln Common Ground's "no mow may" effort, LLCT has

Lincoln Common Ground volunteers will be at the sale to answer questions
and provide planting recommendations.

SOLR Kerebos setup

2024-03-13 Thread Hodder, Rick (Chief Information Office - IT)
Im tasked with setting up Apache SOLR to run under Authentication, while not
modifying the existing c# calls to SOLR.

The options available are a basic authentication plugin, and a kerebos plugin

When I try the basic authentication plugin I find that I need to change the
calls to SOLR to include the login and password

So Im trying to learn about kerebos, but I cant quite get my mind around it.

My understanding is that I need to set up something called a keytab file that
has a list of who the principals are that can access the application and then
you update something called the KDC have give those same principals

So I basically have a web api on one box, and apache solr on a separate box.

1.I dont need to login with kerebos, right? so as long as the KDC
has the web api box and the solr box, and a windows user account (I'm thinking
of using the web api's service account), the back and forth between the servers
happen automatically (asking for a ticket, granting a ticket, etc)
2.I dont need to change my http calls, right?
3.i dont need to have a security certificate, right?

You need a few more permissions in order for that Admin screen to work. Try
instead the default security.json generated by bin/solr auth enable (cloud
mode):

{
  "authentication":{
   "blockUnknown": true,
   "class":"solr.BasicAuthPlugin",
   "credentials":{"solr":"cHFNAKbTL930UaGklonJT02g/NVUSbUc0cn2ssvV5sA=

  },
  "authorization":{
   "class":"solr.RuleBasedAuthorizationPlugin",
   "permissions":[
 {"name":"security-edit", "role":"admin"},
 {"name":"security-read", "role":"admin"},
 {"name":"config-edit", "role":"admin"},
 {"name":"config-read", "role":"admin"},
 {"name":"collection-admin-edit", "role":"admin"},
 {"name":"collection-admin-read", "role":"admin"},

Setting up basic authentication in Solr 8.11.1 Standalone

2024-02-28 Thread Hodder, Rick (Chief Information Office - IT)
Hi,

I have an existing 8.11.1 standalone installation on a windows server, and I
have been asked to make it run under basic authentication.

I have created security.json file in the solr home folder used the contents of
the sample on Configuring Authentication, Authorization and Audit Logging |
Apache Solr Reference Guide
8.11<https://solr.apache.org/guide/8_11/authentication-and-authorization-plugins.html#enable-plugins-with-security-json>

{
"authentication":{
   "class":"solr.BasicAuthPlugin",
   "credentials":{"solr":"IV0EHq1OnNrj6gvRCwvFwTrZ1+z1oBbnQdiVC3otuq0=
Ndd7LKvVBAaZIF0QAVi1ekCfAJXr1GGfLtRUXhgrF8c="}
},
"authorization":{
   "class":"solr.RuleBasedAuthorizationPlugin",
   "permissions":[{"name":"security-edit",
  "role":"admin"}],
   "user-role":{"solr":"admin"}
}
}

Which is supposed to create a user solr with the password "SolrRocks" with
admin privileges.

I restart SOLR and then click on Security and I am taken to a page that says

Current user is not authenticated! Security panel is disabled.
You do not have permission to view the security panel.

I don't get a log in window or anything.

Can someone tell me what I need to do next?

Thanks,

Cant access Solr 9.4 from remote machine

2024-01-24 Thread Hodder, Rick (Chief Information Office - IT)
I have SOLR 9.4 installed and running on port 8983 on a windows server. I'm
running JDK 21 on the server. On the server I can point a browser to
http://localhost:8983/solr/# and the web interface comes up, and I am able to
search a core successfully

Port 8983 is open on the server, I can successfully tsc it over the port from
Powershell from my local machine.

But when I open a browser from my local machine and point it to the server
http://servername:8983/solr/# the browser says that it cant reach the page.

If I go back to the server, and bring up SOLR 8.11.1 on port 8983, I can
successfully hit the site from my local machine.

I don't have authorization or authorization turned on.

Here are the parameters I am passing to SOLR 9.4 when running:

-DSTOP.KEY=stopsolr
-DSTOP.PORT=8087
-Djetty.home=E:\ApacheSolr9_4\server
-Djetty.logs=E:\ApacheSolr9_4\server\logs
-Djetty.port=8983
-Dorg.eclipse.jetty.util.log.SOURCE=true
-Dsolr.disable.shardsWhitelist=true
-Dsolr.enableRemoteStreaming=true
-Dsolr.enableStreamBody=true
-Dsolr.log.dir=E:\ApacheSolr9_4\server\logs
-Dsolr.solr.home=E:\ApacheSolr9_4\server\solr
-Dsolr.solr.home=solr

Dear all,

# Since mid-May, Google AI has been trying to calcify my face with brain waves.
The brain waves heat the area around the left cheekbone, causing the left face
to large bulge and blacken.
# When pressed, it makes a shattering sound. The balance between the left and
right sides of the face is completely upset, and it's skeletal, cosmetically
problems appeared.
# Google AI insinuates daily, "I'm going to deform your skull and make you
unattractive.". Please help me.
# Since it is a conversation with AI due to the auditory effect, will continue
to say it repeatedly in multiple voices 24 hours, thousands of times, tens of
thousands of times.

# Since about April 25, Google's AI has been cutting the blood vessels in my
head daily with brain waves. The reason is to make countless scabs to delay
hair growth.
# Google's AI said it was "a human experiment that would make you stroke."
# This is outright murder by Google.
# (Photo attached. Google's AI taunts, "Baldy!" and pulls out its hair.)

# Around March 20, 2023, I was once again paraplegic due to Google's brain

# It's a terrible pain. Please help me. (Please see attached photos.)

# I have some after-effects now, but I've been able to walk since about the
middle of April.

[LincolnTalk] LLCT Plant Sale

2023-04-18 Thread LLCT Information
LLCT's plant sale is open through April, so there's still time to place an
order. Some species have sold out, but we still have lots of great native
perennials on offer. All sales are pre-order and pick up is on May 19th in
Lincoln, MA. Learn more here.

*What's available? *
*Big Bluestem and Little Bluestem:* These native grasses form attractive
tufts. Both enjoy full sun to part shade and tolerate dry soil. They are
larval hosts for several species of Skippers. Songbirds eat the seeds.

*Sweet Goldenrod and Early Goldenrod: *Goldenrods are hardy perennials (and
they don't cause seasonal allergies-that's ragweed). They offer important
late summer blooms to pollinators. Both like sun and moderately dry soil.

*Calico Aster: *This fairly low growing aster blooms late, offering
important nectar resources into October. Tolerates some shade and likes
medium soil.

*Winged Monkey Flower:* This low growing perennial tolerates sun to part
shade and medium soils. Its pale flowers are a favorite for long-tongued
bees.

*Purple Joe Pye Weed: *This tall perennial likes a bit more water but
enjoys full sun or shade. The larger flower heads attract long-tongued bees
July-Sept.

You can also choose to "donate a plant" which will support planting efforts
at LLCT's pollinator gardens throughout town.

You may want to use the dpkg-buildpackage utility with the relevant Debian
Packaging for your Linux kernel x.y.z ; this last can be obtained from
https://anonscm.debian.org/git/kernel/linux.git

Busybox utilities have their limitations. For instance, I had to create
mount/umount UDEBs
because the d-i busybox equivalents would fail on Reiser4 SFRN4/SFRN5 file
systems when
installing Debian.

Accordingly, probably including an lsblk UDEB in d-i would likely be more
adequate, i.e.,
the last two(2) UDEBs -- which already exist -- are required for lsblk in d-i:

[Corpora-List] Mentor WSIS global hackathon on ICTs for Indigenous Languages

2022-04-14 Thread ELRA ELDA Information

[Apologies for multiple postings]

UNESCO and the International Telecommunications Union ITU are organizing
a global hackathon on ICTs to support the decade of indigenous
languages, as part of the 2022 WSIS Forum
<https://www.itu.int/net4/wsis/forum/2021/Home/Outcomes>.

The WSIS hackathon
<https://icts-for-indigenous-languages.hackerearth.com/fr/challenges/hackathon/ageing-better-with-icts-3/custom-tab/about-us/>
will launch on 19 April through 10 May.

Prize winners will be selected in three categories: Knowledge,
Empowerment and Preservation.

UNESCO and ITU will organize two mentoring sessions, most likely on the
21^st and 25^th of April this month, with one session held in the
morning (for Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asian time zone) and
another in the afternoon (for the Americas).

The mentoring session would involve your hearing pitch sessions by the
coding teams and then providing your constructive feedback in such areas
as relevance & originality, feasibility, suggestions for additional
tweaks/improvements. The mentors may also give opening or closing
remarks highlighting the challenges and needs facing indigenous
populations and languages from your perspective. There is a chance we
may also forward you any further questions from the hackathon teams,
which you may help respond to if you wish.

These mentoring sessions will be a key aspect of the global hackathon.
We are hoping for as many as 60 teams to sign up for a five minute pitch
session with one of at least six volunteer mentors, approximately ten
mentoring sessions for you of 5 minutes each, over perhaps a two hour
period.

*REQUEST:* I hope that you may agree to volunteer your time to help
mentor the coding teams, and/or designate, if you are not available,
representative(s) from your organization to be our WSIS hackathon
mentors. N.B. Bilingual mentors in any language would be useful, e.g.
Spanish/English bilingual speakers for the afternoon session, and
French/Arabic/English for the morning session.

Upon hearing back from you on your availability, I will send you more
details, options and ways to engage and contribute.

p.s. I also welcome you to please share the hackathon link (registration
deadline is 19 April) on your mailing lists and newsletters to encourage
more indigenous participants who may be interested.

Extended Deadline - Workshop on Multilingual De-Identification of (Sensitive) Language Resources @ LREC 2022

2022-04-08 Thread ELRA ELDA Information

[Apologies for multiple postings]

*EXTENDED DEADLINE*: FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop on Multilingual De-Identification of (Sensitive) Language Resources

To be held in conjunction with the 13th International Language Resources
and Evaluation Conference (LREC 2022)

20 June 2022, Le Palais du Pharo, Marseille, France

https://sites.google.com/vicomtech.org/multilingual-de-identification

EXTENDED Deadline for submission: 17 April 2022

*Description*
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR - Regulation (EU) 2016/679
of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016) ensures
the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of
personal data and on the free movement of such data. The GDPR outlines a
specific set of rules that protect citizens and user data and create
transparency in information sharing. GDPR is the strictest data privacy
regulation in the world, and considerable work is taking place to
develop techniques and deploy systems that help comply with this
regulation while rendering data accessible and, thus, usable for further
processing.
Different techniques are studied to guarantee such compliance, implying
different levels of sensitive content protection and with a short- or
long-term guarantee depending on whether we may have access to
additional related information. In this regard, we can read about work
on anonymization, de-identification and pseudonymization. While
anonymization implies a zero re-identification risk, which is extremely
difficult to secure, de-identification and pseudonymization represent an
attainable target under the GDPR, given that this regulation defines
pseudonymization as “the processing of personal data in such a manner
that the personal data can no longer be attributed to a specific data
subject without the use of additional information, provided that such
additional information is kept separately and is subject to technical
and organisational measures to ensure that the personal data are not
attributed to an identified or identifiable natural person.”
Bearing this context in mind, multilingual approaches and kits for
(sensitive) language resources de-identification may provide the means
to share language data while also protecting private or sensitive data
by spotting then deleting, obfuscating, pseudonymizing or encrypting
person identifying information.

De-identification is typically performed for the purpose of protecting
an individual’s private activities while maintaining the usefulness of
the gathered data for research and development purposes. This workshop
aims at discussing the various approaches to effective and reliable text
de-identification, focusing on some sensitive domains such as the
medical and legal domains, but not only.

Based on these premises a consensus emerges that shows a clear situation
and needs:
1.    Tools for the multilingual de-identification of (sensitive)
language resources are becoming essential to ensure that such resources
can be shared.
2.    De-identification is crucial to ensure that all legal & ethical
considerations are taken into account during the production/repurposing
phases but also that the quality/nature of the de-identified data sets
remains appropriate to conduct research activities.
3.    European Public Administrations need personal data processing
tools to handle the extremely large amounts of data they manage.
4.    Europe’s multilingual context will benefit from approaches and
tools that can support the European Digital Market in their multilingual
data exchanges.

*Workshop Objectives and Topics of Interest*
This workshop is organised by members of the MAPA project, funded by the
EU Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program (https://mapa-project.eu/).
This project has developed a toolkit for the de-identification of texts
in the medical and legal fields which addresses all EU official
languages. It has followed a BERT-based Named Entity Recognition
approach for personal information identification. A wide range of topics
have been considered and are hot topics open for discussion to all
participants of this workshop. Among them, we have the following:
1.    Sensitive personal information, domains and services that require
de-identification

2.    Corpora annotation and/or creation

[Mt-list] ELRA PR: The new ISLRN Web Portal is now open

2022-03-26 Thread ELRA ELDA Information

[Apologies for multiple postings]/
/

/Press Release – Immediate/

/Paris, France, March 23, 2022/

*The new ISLRN Web Portal is now open.*

ELRA is happy to release a new version of ISLRN (International Standard
Language Resource Number) web portal.

In order to improve the performance of the portal, with an up-to-date
technical infrastructure, ISLRN was ported into latest versions of
Django and Python frameworks. Consequently, the website design was also
adapted to make the navigation and the functionalities clearer and
faster for users.

Some of the main design changes currently are:

-The main page now offers an extensive description of ISLRN and a single
click button to request for an ISLRN number. Subpages can now be viewed
from the top menu at all levels of the portal;

-The search tool that allows for looking for resources “by ISLRN” or “by
resource name” has been combined into one single search box with
predictive typing function and is also accessible at all levels of the
portal;

-Expressive icons allow users to locate the functionalities in a more
intuitive way;

-Language Resources description pages are better structured and the
ISLRN ID of the resource may be copied directly from the Language
Resource description page;

-Functionalities of management pages (both for users and
administrators), such as profile pages or user internal submission pages
are improved.

About ISLRN

The ISLRN (International Standard Language Resource Number) is a unique
persistent identifier to be assigned to each Language Resource. The
establishment of ISLRNs was a major step in the networked and shared
world of Human Language Technologies. Unique resources must be
identified as they are, and meta-catalogues require a common
identification format to manage data correctly. Therefore, Language
Resources should carry identical identification schemes regardless their
representations, their types and their storage place (hard drives,
internet or intranet).

To find out more about ISLRN, please visit the website:

[Mt-list] [1st Call for Papers] ELRA/ISCA Special Interest Group on Under-Resourced Languages - SIGUL 2022 Workshop

2022-03-13 Thread ELRA ELDA Information

{Apologies for multiple postings]

1st Call for Papers - *SIGUL 2022 Workshop *

a post-Conference Workshop of LREC 2022 in Marseille (FR), on 24-25 June
2022

The 1st Annual Meeting of the ELRA/ISCA Special Interest Group on
Under-Resourced Languages (SIGUL 2022) will provide a forum for the
presentation and discussion of cutting-edge research in text and speech
processing for under-resourced languages by academic and industry
researchers. SIGUL 2022 will carry on the tradition of the CCURL-SLTU
(Collaboration and Computing for Under-Resourced Languages – Spoken
Language Technologies for Under-resourced languages) Workshop Series,
which has been organised since 2008 and, as LREC Workshops, since 2014.
As usual, this Workshop spans the research interest areas of
less-resourced, under-resourced, endangered, minority and minoritized
languages. Since this year LREC includes a track dedicated specifically
to endangered and less-resourced languages, the workshop aims to be a
venue for networking and discussion as much as for scientific debate.

Over the last years, research in NLP for less-resourced languages has
taken momentum. The multiplication of research interest makes it even
more necessary for the community that revolves around less-resourced
languages to find opportunities for aggregation and discussion.
Following the long-standing series of previous meetings, the SIGUL venue
will provide a forum for the presentation of cutting edge research in
NLP, MT and Speech Technologies for under-resourced languages to both
academic and industry researchers, and also to offer a venue where
researchers in different disciplines and from varied backgrounds can
fruitfully explore new areas of intellectual and practical development
while honouring their common interest of sustaining less-resourced
languages.

Topics include but are not limited to:

 * General research on *under-resourced languages*.
 * *Transfer-learning techniques for under-resourced languages* (use of
   multilingual, pretrained models, unsupervised, semi-supervised,
zero-shot, few-shot training,...) in *NLP, MT and Speech technologies*.
 * We also invite *position papers *on methodological, ethical, or
   institutional issues

*Instructions for submission can be found **here
*

*Important Dates*

 * Paper submission deadline: 11 April 2022
 * Notification of acceptance: 3 May 2022
 * Camera-ready paper: 23 May 2022
 * Workshop date: 24-25 June 2022

*Organizing Committee*

 *      Maite Melero - Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, Spain
 *      Sakriani Sakti - NAIST, Japan
 *      Claudia Soria - CNR-ILC, Italy

To contact the organisers, please mail sigul2...@ilc.cnr.it (Subject:

Re: [ossec-list] Re: Active response not working for rule_id 554 with "filename" as expect

2022-03-03 Thread 'Aksha Gandhi | Information Security' via ossec-list
Hi,
We are using AlienVault Version: OSSIM 5.7.4
For scripts we are referring to : https://github.com/jonschipp/nsm-tools/
The script is getting executed but we are not receiving FILENAME parameter
when RULE ID 554 is getting triggered.

Thanks in advance.

[Mt-list] CfP: Workshop on Multilingual de-identification of (sensitive) LRs at LREC 2022 - Marseille, June 20, 2022

2022-02-28 Thread ELRA ELDA Information

[Apologies for multiple postings]

CALL FOR PAPERS

Workshop on Multilingual de-identification of (sensitive) language resources

To be held in conjunction with the 13th International Language Resources
and Evaluation Conference (LREC 2022)

20 June 2022, Le Palais du Pharo, Marseille, France

*Deadline for submission: 10 April 2022*

*Description*
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR - Regulation (EU) 2016/679
of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016) ensures
the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of
personal data and on the free movement of such data. The GDPR outlines a
specific set of rules that protect citizens and user data and create
transparency in information sharing. GDPR is the strictest data privacy
regulation in the world, and considerable work is taking place to
develop techniques and deploy systems that help comply with this
regulation while rendering data accessible and, thus, usable for further
processing. Different techniques are studied to guarantee such
compliance, implying different levels of sensitive content protection
and with a short- or long-term guarantee depending on whether we may
have access to additional related information. In this regard, we can
read about work on anonymization, de-identification and
pseudonymization. While anonymization implies a zero re-identification
risk, which is extremely difficult to secure, de-identification and
pseudonymization represent an attainable target under the GDPR, given
that this regulation defines pseudonymization as “the processing of
personal data in such a manner that the personal data can no longer be
attributed to a specific data subject without the use of additional
information, provided that such additional information is kept
separately and is subject to technical and organisational measures to
ensure that the personal data are not attributed to an identified or
identifiable natural person.” Bearing this context in mind, multilingual
approaches and kits for (sensitive) language resources de-identification
may provide the means to share language data while also protecting
private or sensitive data by spotting then deleting, obfuscating,
pseudonymizing or encrypting person identifying information.

De-identification is typically performed for the purpose of protecting
an individual’s private ctivities while maintaining the usefulness of
the gathered data for research and development
purposes. This workshop aims at discussing the various approaches to
effective and reliable text de-identification, focusing on some
sensitive domains such as the medical and legal domains, but not only.

Based on these premises a consensus emerges that shows a clear situation
and needs:

1. Tools for the multilingual de-identification of (sensitive) language
resources are becoming essential to ensure that such resources can
   be shared.
2. De-identification is crucial to ensure that all legal & ethical
considerations are taken into account during the
production/repurposing phases but also that the quality/nature of
the de-identified data sets remains appropriate to conduct research
   activities.
3. European Public Administrations need personal data processing tools
to handle the extremely large amounts of data they manage.
4. Europe’s multilingual context will benefit from approaches and tools
that can support the European Digital Market in their multilingual
   data exchanges.

*Workshop Objectives and Topics of Interest**
*

3. Annotation guidelines and platforms
4. De-identification tools, data and/or applications
5. De-identification and minority languages
6. Multi-domain and/or multilingual processing
7. NLP techniques and tools used for de-identification
8. Multimodal de-identification
9. Validation and benchmarking of de-identified resources
10. Evaluation of de-identification tools and applications
11. Evaluation protocols: how to evaluate, metrics, approaches, data,
   experiences
12. Best practices
13. Approaches, activities and systems addressing “anonymization” are
also welcome to share their experience.
14. Any other topic related to de-identification

This workshop will also be a good forum to discuss the possibility to
design and initiate a

Well, it seems it is making the rounds in 2022. I have not received an
email from Linux Kernel Mailing List (and
neither the Virtual Box developers mailing list
<
https://www.virtualbox.org/pipermail/vbox-dev/2022-February/015710.html
> ) since sometime within Jan. 26, 2022, to the present; hence, I
assume somebody (or some skiddie) unsubscribed me.

The last Jan. 26, 2022, email I sent to the list also included the
reiser4 developer as an addressee -- as I have experienced some issues
with newer kernels (and thought someone else might even provide a hint).

Apropos (off-topic, sorry, yet if this email makes it to the Linux
kernel mailing list and other developers know him), I am somewhat
concerned about Mr. Shiskin's well being -- as his continued Reiser4
work for the Linux kernel is appreciated by at least those of us who --
in stark contrast to 'the chosen ones' -- we do not pretend to be
morally superior to judge and pontificate to others.

Last reiser4 patch (hack) that is working decently for me:

I will resubscribe to Linux Kernel Mailing List
; unless, of course, I have been placed on
a black list by the Penguins and/or their 'morally virtuous'
govt/corporate overlords ;-)

Best Professional Regards.

*Learn More and Register Here: https://www.onbelongingoutdoors.org/
*

The concept of 'indigeneity' denotes the Original People of a Place. This
is not a dualistic relationship but, rather, an understanding that the
people are the land and the land is the people, including All of Our
Relations. We will explore principles of relationship, reciprocity, and
responsibility, along with an examination of how these ways of being have
been embraced or rejected in the Northeast, along with the implications.

Rich Holschuh is a resident of Wantastegok (Brattleboro, VT) and an
independent historic and cultural researcher. He has served on the Vermont
Commission on Native American Affairs and is a public liaison and Tribal
Historic Preservation Officer for the Elnu Abenaki Tribe, members of the
contemporary Indigenous community in Vermont. Rich is founder and director
of the Atowi Project. His work draws upon indigenous history, linguistics,
geography, and culture to share beneficial ways of seeing and being in
relationship with place.

*This is a free program. Fall funding provided by The Sudbury Foundation.
This speaker series is hosted by Farrington Nature Linc, deCordova
Sculpture Park and Museum, Mass Audubon, Lincoln Land Conservation Trust,
The Food Project, The Walden Woods Project. *

[Mt-list] PR: META-FORUM 2021 invites LT experts to discuss European Language Grid & Language-centric AI - Nov 15-17, 2021 (virtual event)

2021-11-08 Thread ELRA ELDA Information

[Apologies for multiple postings]

*META-FORUM 2021 invites Language Technology experts to discuss European
Language Grid & Language-centric AI*

Only a few days are left until the start of META-FORUM 2021, the
international conference series on powerful and innovative Language
Technologies for the multilingual information society. The online
conference is the place to be to learn about most recent developments
and achievements in European Language Technology, both from industry and
research and including language-centric AI.

From 15-17 November, Language Technology researchers and industry
representatives are invited to learn all about “Using the European
Language Grid” and discussing the state of play in the European LT
landscape.

Search engines, voice assistants, translation services – Language
Technology is everywhere. That is, if used in English. Many other
languages, especially those with few speakers, lack the technological
support that could help preserving them in the digital world and
promoting their use, which instead increases their risk for abandonment
and digital extinction. The European Language Grid (ELG) aims to prevent
exactly this by becoming the primary Language Technology platform for
all European languages, big and small. However, supporting digital
language equality is only one of the ELG’s goals.

At META-FORUM 2021, taking place virtually from 15-17 November,
participants can learn about all the different aspects of the European
Language Grid in its function as a marketplace for the European LT
industry, as a cloud platform for research data and tools and as a point
of contact and exchange for the Language Technology community in the EU.
Titled “Using the European Language Grid”, this year’s META-FORUM
features many news and updates from the ELG project and initiative, the
outcome of the ELG pilot projects, first results and findings of the
European Language Equality project and much more.

As one of the highlights, META-FORUM 2021 will present an overview and
first demo of the upcoming Release 3 of the European Language Grid,
which will launch in early 2022. Further ones include the project expo,
opening on day 1, as well as reports from the industry, information on
current EU-funded projects in Language Technology and discussions on
building bridges to Artificial Intelligence.

"META-FORUM 2021 will be a special edition of our conference series,
summing up all the work achieved in the past three years of the ELG
project and giving an outlook on the upcoming months. I especially look
forward to the presentation of ELG Release 3, the results of the pilot
projects at the virtual expo and the session on the European Language
Equality project, which guides one of the main ideas of ELG towards a
realistic future – digital language equality in Europe by 2030.” says
Georg Rehm, coordinator of the ELG project.

The registration for META-FORUM 202
<https://www.european-language-grid.eu/meta-forum-2021>1 is, as usual,
free of charge.

about META-FORUM, the ELG and ELE projects as well as the European

Re: Onboarding package

2021-10-06 Thread information

On 2021-10-05 10:35 pm, Otto Urpelainen wrote:

Stephen Snow kirjoitti 5.10.2021 klo 15.39:

we were initially discussing that it could be useful to have some
package one can experiment with without being too much worried about
the
result.

However, discussing this back and forth, we figured that it might
also
where new coming package maintainer could gradually gain experience
with
the packaging workflows. So the simplest tasks could be:

1) Add changelog entry into onboarding package and open PR with the
change. This would not require too many privileges. Alternatively
this
current Fedora contributors might be interested to send such PR ;)

I like this approach, but I was also thinking of a small tutorial/app
to actually package a piece of software as required, going through the
various steps but be a "fake" package that is only used to teach and
test with. This app could record the FAS user ID and assign a badge to
it once they complete the tutorial successfully. Sort of a base
starting point for all new packagersd that give both them some
confidence going in and the sponsors some confidence too about the
level of the new committers capabilities.

Well, in the Quick Docs, we already have Creating RPM packages [1]. It
has subpage "Publishing your software on Copr", which somehow covers
the publishing aspect. But honestly, when I was starting out, I spent
some time with those instructions, but could not understand them or
complete the tutorials. So one thing would be to revisit these
instructions and make the better — there is a task about moving them
over to Package Maintainer Docs [2], it was in progress at some point,
but apparently stalled now. After that, improvement could happen.

About every packager publishing their own test package, in Copr that
can be done for sure. If it is deemed too far from the official Fedora
repositories, the perhaps it could be done in staging. I have never
really used it, I cannot say if that is a good idea or not.

A similar but different idea I have is to create a "Fedora Packaging
Guidelines Web Course" that you can complete by yourself. It could be
implemented as a Git repository. For each entry in the the Review
Guidelines [3], there would be a directory with a specfile and a srpm.
For simplicity, we could first implement cases which fedora-review can
check automatically. The student's assignment would be to run
fedora-review on the specfile, find the error it gives, refer to the
Packaging Guidelines to figure out how to fix it, modify the specfile
as needed and run fedora-review again to check their answer. The
assignment is completed when fedora-review does not complain any more.

Later, the course could be expanded also to cases where there is no
automated check available, either by involving a mentor, or simply by
adding a SOLUTION file.

Awarding a badge for completing this course would be a good idea, if a
technical solution can be found.

I see this course as complementary to Vít's original proposal about
the onboarding package. The orboarding package tasks are about
learning the build system, certainly a required skill for packages.
The course is about learning the Guidelines. Currently the recommended
method to do that is to submit inofficial reviews to live Review
Requests. That has the advantage of exposing the applicant to real
packages with real problems, but 1) has no guarantee of producing an
effective learning path, the package that is picked may well be a very
tricky case and thus unsuitable for starting out and 2) is
psychologically unsafe, because a total newcomer must participate in
discussion of two experts who are actually trying to get a package
into Fedora, not educating the packagers.

packager to be already sponsored and they could go through the whole
process themeselves just with some light guidance if needed.

This could be extended in the future. E.g. next step could be:

3) Submit module update.

Apart from gaining experience, this could also help with the common
question "where should I start". And of course our sponsoring
guidelines
could be refreshed suggesting/requesting to take these steps at some
point.

Thoughts?

Personnaly I am for this type of approach since it is also clarifying
the roles a bit more too. It wouldn't hurt to outline what is expected
of a packager of Fedora Linux in general. You know expectations are
very often left unsaid thinking that roles and responsibilities fill
in

the info, but that is not always the case.

Are you aware of the page "Package maintainer responsibilities" [4]?
Is there some aspects of the responsibilities that are not covered
there?

i do note that libparted2 is 621K in the archive, whereas

all that weight is desirable functionality.

I think 70k more disk space is not really a concern.

with that said, i would *still want to test on the target

so that necessity remains.

I thought you didn't depend on libparted?

would this allay your concerns?

No, not really. I consider a partitioning tool to be too important
to be replaced by an unproven solution.

Growlight seems like an adequate tool for Debian expert option as it has
potential to enable additional flexibility and extensibility for file
system options which may not offered in the current set of Parted
utilities. For instance, the current Growlight string/option 'enter
filesystem name' could be re-implemented, with a couple lines of code,
into something like 'enter plugin override'

etc., for other filesystems.

Also Growlight may reduce at least a subset of UDEB modules needed for
each file system supported by Debian, thus reducing complexity. For
instance, it was relatively straightforward to add support for reiser4
-- as compared to initial efforts developing substantial code for a
partman-[filesystem] UDEB module.

In other words, even if there is no compelling reason to update d-i at
the moment, Growlight has potential to decrease complexity in the long run.

Just a point of view from an outsider, of course, I do not want anyone
'to have a cow' for refusing to potentially move away from their place
of comfort and/or entertaining a perspective that may be considered 'taboo.'

Best Professional Regards.

*DESCRIBE AND SHARE YOUR LRs!*
In addition to describing your LRs in the LRE Map - now a normal step in
the submission procedure of many conferences - LREC recognises the
importance of sharing resources and making them available to the community.
When submitting a paper, you will be offered the possibility to share
your LRs (data, tools, web-services, etc.), uploading them in a special
LREC repository set up by ELRA. After LREC, such Language Resources will
be made available to the community within the share-LRs repository
set-up by ELRA, in compliance with the licenses indicated by
right-holders. This effort of sharing LRs, linked to the LRE Map for
their description, contributes to creating a common repository where
everyone can deposit and share data.

*PROGRAMME*

The Scientific Programme will include invited talks, oral,  poster and
demo presentations in addition to a keynote address by the winner of the
Antonio Zampolli Prize.

An Industrial Track to report on state of the art within industry and
commercial achievements, for which there will be a separate Call, will
also be organized

*SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS*

The European Language Resources Association (ELRA) is glad to announce
the 13th edition of LREC, organised with the support of national and
international organisations. We hope to be able to organise a
face-to-face conference, otherwise an online or hybrid alternative will
be set up.

*CONFERENCE AIMS*
LREC is the major event on Language Resources (LRs) and Evaluation for
Language Technologies (LT). LREC aims to provide an overview of the
state-of-the-art, explore new R directions and emerging trends,
exchange information regarding LRs and their applications, evaluation
methodologies and tools, on-going and planned activities, industrial
uses and needs, requirements coming from e-science and e-society, with
respect to both scientific/technological issues as well as policy and
organisational ones.
LREC provides a unique forum for researchers, industrials and funding
agencies from across a wide spectrum of areas to discuss issues and
opportunities, find new synergies and promote initiatives for
international cooperation, in support of investigations in language
sciences, progress in language technologies and development of
corresponding products, services and applications, and standards.

*TRACKS FOR SUBMISSION*

Re: Improved PostgreSQL Mathematics Support.

2021-09-19 Thread Private Information Retrieval(PIR)
Your request is essentially to wrap the GMP library into native types in
Postgres. This can be done as custom types and adding postgres extensions as
you suggested originally. The work to be done is straightforward, but there is
a lot of work so it would take a awhile to implement. The big integer part is
rather simple, while there is some work to be done there the fractional part
will take significantly longer because reasons ( think testing edge cases), but
it is doable if there is interest in implementing this.
