I can't say I noticed the bad mixes cos I was too busy getting down and
screamimng "Aciiieed!". Mind you, I've never been someone who cares that
much about it or even notices it unless it is spectacularly good or
spectacularly bad - it's the tunes that matter for me - eg Ben Sims is a
great mixer but the last two times I've heard him he bored the sh** out of
me with his tune selection, so I was chuffed when I heard Gerald playing
some acid house - the young loopy crowd needed a bit of education and he
seemed to go down pretty well - I for one (and the crowd I was with) was
ecstatic to hear the likes of Phuture being played out on big loud rig -
many tunes I had never heard in a club before, just in bedrooms - so it was
a breath of fresh air after Sims' dull bmtisch bmtisch sound.

Nobody mentioned A Guy Called Gerald who seems to have had a bit of a DJing
renaissance recently. He played a welcome set of old school Chicago acid at
Retrovert the week before and this week he played some fantastic
Faze-Action-style downtempo house with some Latin flavours but I have to
say
I didn't hear much of it cos I was dancing to Orson Lardy so much.

He was the worst DJ at Retrovert for me.
There were some bad mixes and the selection just didn't seemed a bit lame
to me - it might of had something to do with scheduling him to play after
Sims & before Ruskin but I definately felt he should have been kept in the
back room.

Then again I am a bangbang Mills fan ;o)
