I've seen Laurent DJ four times and don't think I've ever hear him play
Donna Summers.

As for the Detroit/Chicago connection, he has always played a lot of
those songs, but as i've often discussed with Dj friends, the way he mixes
you might not even recognize even the most obvious track (Model 500) until
he's been playing it for two minutes.

Also- his diversity is unmatched. At the 2001 Planet E DEMF afterparty,
his set was trimmed down to less than two hours, yet it felt like he had
been playing for 8, he had covered so much ground, so seemlessly.

On the other hand- his set at the Loop in Windsor was comprised of the
slowest build of all time, going from beatless ambient to slamming techno.
it was just build build and build until he finally broke down into jungle
after 4 hours. but honestly- i don't recall a single breakdown, or one
familiar track (although I was a relative newbie and would probably know a
lot of them now- who knows). But that style I think is well reflected on
his Mixmag mix.

i will admit the occasionally his soulseek mixes can sound similar (at
least the ones all taken from peak hours at european clubs), but the man's
diversity is unmatched given the course of whatever length set he plays.
The fact that he is revered for this very fact makes me wonder if its not
in fact some 'bizarro martin' posting from a world where up is down and
blue is red.
