for the same reason people enjoy looking at gore pics, or road accidents or
enjoy reading american psycho - the thrill associated with fantasising about
suck "sick" acts without necessarily taking part in them.
i myself have a pretty sick and dark sense of humour so i am able to see the
irony in booty lyrics.
and what is being sung in booty it isnt too far from what can be heard in
rap music...
having said that, it would be interesting to discuss the moral difference
between so-called "hate lyrics" (from racist neo-nazi bands) and booty
lyrics, all within the context of freedom of speech.
from what i gather, freedom of speech is protected, or is defensible, to the
extent that it doesn't promote hate or violence against religious, ethnical,
or sexual minorities.....so where does that leave booty? "beat that bitch
with a bat" may not actively promote doing that precise act but it sure
walks that fine line between free speech and hate speech nevertheless.
i have no moral qualms with explicitly sexual lyrics btw....
i wonder what the female listeners to booty think about the lyrics.
what i do think is that it, like rap lyrics, must analysed within its
cultural context, it's not enough for someone in the deepest europe
expressing their disdain for booty lyrics....

I don't think anyone on the list was proposing to censor booty, they just
ventured a distaste for some of its lyrics.
