I do seem to remember [Bowie] taking a good few heavy hits in both the
dance and rock press in the UK for his flirtations with A Guy Called
Gerald and Drum and Bass in general (and rightly so as it was utter tosh)
and many of those comments did revolve around him being "too old" to
really understand the culture and energy behind this music.

I can see the complaints about the music itself but the ageism
really gets on my tits - Bowie was 49-50 when he dabbled in D'n'B;
not a spring chicken by any means but I was down at Metalheadz
back in 2001 at age 42+ (and would have no problem going to a D'n'B
club now, at age 47) and if anyone had given me any stick about being
"too old" I would've clocked 'em one.

I spent a fair bit of time in D'n'B clubs in my late 30's and early
40's (and have friends that were D'n'B DJs). It's the age of your
ears that counts; not what's listed on your driver's license.
