i agree. most of laura's words were spot on.....why let a tiny,
inconsequential phrase nullify all the excellent points she made - >shouldn't you make some allowances for cultural differences between >Laura's local communication styles and yours.

stupid nigger.

sorry, we use that phrase in my local town and its just a communication style difference. its just an inconsequential phrase.

Fact of the matter is, laura was talking about oppression, and keeping people down, and then goes off and uses a phrase that oppresses and keeps people down. *that* invalidates her response, not to mention that her email went off on a totally different tangent than the arguement at hand. did she make good points? yes she did. is juan atkins being oppressed? are you smoking CRACK?

People on this list need to make up their mind: either you want your techno stars to be famous, or you don't. Someone will bitch about the superstars and sellouts that Sasha and crew have become, and then complain that Juan and Carl aren't in the same position. You'll bitch about Oakenfold taking a sponsorship of sony headphones, and then completely ignore that the belleville 3 got ford focus's at a press conference last year, and juan was quoted as saying, "if i wasn't a big guy, i'd love this car."

Plain and simple, they ARE big stars, and to pretend that they're being oppressed is stupid as fuck. I don't see Carl boppin around detroit in a beat-up volvo not being able to afford to put out another cd; last time i checked the dude gets his nike's custom made for himself. I don't see kevin saunderson living a run down house on the westside; the dude owns multiple houses, all of them gorgeous. Derrick doesn't wear rags when he goes out, the bro has a rolex and $100 dollar silk shirt. some of you want to pretend that these guys are doin this 100% for the music, and that they're barely scraping by while sasha and digweed laugh in their big evil Tower raking in the money that our poor detroit artists should be making. the fact is, they ARE making great money, living great lives, and enjoying themselves. They better be.

There's no doubt she is passionate about
what she is sayin and perhaps this emotion slipped through in her writing -
I'm sure no harm was intended.
