Well that's the point Nik! :) 'Bad' is subjective. I don't think those artefacts are in there by accident. Some people - not just Theo Parrish - record distortion in their mixes deliberately as an aesthetic measure don't they?
Not sure what I think of it. Sometimes it seems to work, at others it doesn't - and also of course digital clipping always seems to be bad to the ears whereas the analogue distortion/clipping effect can often sound quite pleasing. Here's an example: http://www.discogs.com/release/629276 And we definitely know it was deliberate because the tracks originally appeared over a decade ago. And people complained about how 'crunchy' some of them where back then as well! -----Original Message----- From: Nik Stoltzman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2008 12:07 PM To: Odeluga, Ken Cc: Three-One-Three Subject: RE: (313) Your last best detroit track I'm glad you mentioned that clipping... I wondered whether it was just my copy. I noticed this especially on 'Friendly Children'. Actually, now I come to think of it, I have his 'Contemporyhthms 2' mix CR-R and it sounds a bit crunchy at points. Maybe Theo has bad ears.
