I believe there are enough people working on enough different things that we don't need an official hacklab. It is better to continue with the 100 ad-hoc labs that we do have. Of course, I understand that people can feel lonely in their basements, but you know we have gotten better at telecommunications and distributed networks. Remember the context for this is the CNZ stategic plan. We can't increase their budget, which comes to about $40M and which is slowly dropping relative to population and inflation. The National Party has promised to spend more of it on tory arts like ballet and opera. I don't want to see the few tens of thousands of dollars that digital art has due to it all go to a showpony medialab in Auckland that will be unusable for the majority of artists. BTW, people, is there anyone in New Zealand who wants a national hacklab?
