I agree completely Jeff, apart from the fact that TFT/LCD is better
for the eyes and consumes less energy.
There was a debate on this in a PS group and in a DW group.
1] some colors look a bit "off" on TFT.
2] TFT is many times a bit too bright, not adjustable to less (I mean:
still too bright when adjusted to minimum brightness, which all
depends of the quality).
3] CRT is just plain better for graphic work and (big ones) cheaper.
But the following is my main thing.
I work on CRT but I ALWAYS check any graphic on TFT.
Many times if well on CRT, it looks pale on TFT (believe me, both my
screens are monitor based well calibrated). So I add contrast, which
helps.
Or for example you get pics for a web site from someone that has been
working on them using a TFT screen. You might very well get pics that
look OK on TFT but dullish on CRT. And very difficult to improve then.
But at least with two screens you get warned for something you wouldnt
have seen using only one.
I would say buy a good big CRT screen, a small 2nd hand cheap TFT one
and a monitor splitter. (Small TFT should be able to deal with large
resolution of big CRT!)
