This brings back my puzzling thought - When we fans take a few
hearings to start liking AR's songs, wonder how the directors are able
to instantly pick a tune (even with a rough sketch)..

hi all,
today had the pleasure of watching a special program called "legends
of melody" which had arr,subhash ghai and gulzar as the guests for
the movie YUVVRAAJ on NDTV 24*7 at 1.30. It was a great show lasted
for half an hour. Although i cant remember the whole set of
questions bt m putting below watever i remember.
Q(to ghai): How did u deal with the mode of working of arr.(arr
starts smiling).How much did u tolerated.
ANS. Well actually i wanted him to prepare the music as fast as
possible(starts laughing). The reason was that i had already
imagined how the shot must takes place, the dress etc. Only part
remaining used to be the music. So out of excitement i wanted him to
deliver now. Sometimes u get frustrated bt when u look at rahman, he
has such a divine face. He always remains calm and smiles when u
look at him. So i used to forget everything and start smiling with
him.(both arr and ghai laugh). Bt u know a person like rahman needs
his time. He deserves it.
Q(to gulzar): How much do u think poetry scenario has changed today?
ANS. It has changed a lot. Now a days we hav commercialized poetry.
Bt look at rahman he brought tremendous change. Earlier we used to
have 2 lines of mukhada and then 2 lines of antara. Bt with rahman
anything is possible.
Q(to arr): When u prepare tune, if ghai doesnt like wat happens then?
ANS. Nothing he just says it doesnt work. I go to something else.
Its that simple.
(ghai interrupts) The best thing about rahman is that he immediately
shifts to the next tune if i dont like it. He has no such ego. He
can change it himself if he doesnt find it right. Infact sometimes
when i like the tune hearing first time he cant believe it "ki inhe
pasand kaise aa gaya itni jaldi"(laughs)
Q(to all): Now each of u hav to tell the 3 works that u liked of the
other two gentlemen in which u hav not collaborated.
ANS. GHAI: my favs are roja,taal and yuvvraaj.( on being reminded
not to mention his own) All are great. in case of arr the least u
can expect is EXCELLENT.
ARR: I m getting nostalgic so i wud say ghai's HERO is the one i
used to play during childhood.
Gulzar: In case of rahman, i loved the song "e ajnabi" from dil se.
I loved ghai's "taal". the way he pictuarized the song was so great.
I decided to work with ghai sahab. When he called me for yuvvraaj he
said " kya aap likhenge" i said " yes sir,bilkul"(everyone laughs).
ARR says " i couldnt belive he agreed for writing so many
songs"(laughing)
