First, BB, I want to thank you publicly (or at least semi-publicly
as in this group) for stepping up to the plate and delivering a top
of the line printer-fax-copier to the kids in the 5th grade apogee
program at the Bradley Elementary School. Having seen some of their
writings, I can say we have some really talented scribes among those
young people. You'd think that with a huge budget like the one we
have, the kids in that class would have had a decent printer to go
along with the computers. Now, thanks to you (and I know you had
attended that school for a time back when), the students can get a
hard copy of what they compose. And thanks for the ink cartridges as
well. We may disagree on lots of issues, especially red state-blue
state stuff, but in this case we're on the same page, literally, I
think. And perhaps you can assist us in a project the board has said
is a priority: the creation of an Ed Foundation. In the years ahead,
when the State steps further away from our district, such a
foundation will be more important than ever. If you have any ideas
on the subject, perhaps you can contact the folks in Central office
and even (gasp!) the much maligned union.
Anyone who doubts that the Bradley School has not come a long way
and turned a significant corner lately should visit the place. The
school administration and staff work together in an atmosphere that
might put many suburban schools to shame. By the way, the same can
be said for the other two Elementary Schools in Asbury: Thurgood
Marshall and Bangs Avenue. There is an atmosphere of caring, calm,
and best of all, learning, going on in those places, too.
Frank (I'm not running for anything but the
Crosstown bus) D'Alessandro
