Another "bad idea" being implemented on the beachfront.
Fifteen (15) feet of sidewalk on the South side of Fifth Avenue is
being eliminated. The existing curb to building distance of 25 feet
(at the Wonder Bar) is being reduced to 10 feet.
Now before you go off about 'there goes Werner again', give this some
critical thought.
The story sold to the public was that the beachfront was being
redesigned to be pedestrian friendly. Anticipated are thousands of
new condo dwellers along with entertainment seekers (ConHall etc.)
Existing curb to property line = 25 ft. Lots of space for trees,
benches, trash cans, lighting, greenery, etc. + PEOPLE.
New curb to property line = 10 ft. Your typical walkway in a quiet
residential neighboorhood is 5 ft without any physical amenities as
proposed.
The beautiful wide-open feel of Abury Park is being destroyed.
