Chris, In a town, where you can get elected with as little as 400 votes as a low, is incredible! All I have IS a voice! I'm not rich or well connected, so I can bitch all I want, it just doesn't resonate.
Now, if I have the ability to raise copious amounts of cash, KNOW people, be WELL connected, (like be related to someone, who IS someone), you'd be surprised by the difference. You're treated a "little" better! If you bemoan AP ALL the time, you draw the wrong kind of attention, the authorities are "sicked" on you, and could land you in jail! Mind you, no one has made threats against anyone, we just bitch! You can BUY a "Go Straight to Jail", card, here! Moving right along, you have the native born/grew up near/been here a long time, people, who are "vested" in AP. They have a "We own this place" mentality! I'm one of them. Silly me! Mind you, progress is good, but no one expected Condos to replace the Palace! Redevelopment means different things to different people! I thought they'd just refurbish the BOARDWALK! Rejuvenate the amusements, repair the historic places and reopen them! Well, no disrespect but "gentrification" HAS arrived! See the paragraphs above to gauge how natives, as opposed to "newbies", feel about each other or not! I don't have a problem with "new" residents, but they DO have a tendency to have built-in opinions of us. They want Brooklyn, Manhatten or Jersey City, which we aren't. This was just a summer resort, which is why the population tends to stay small, because after the summer, the sidewalks were rolled up and we had the boards to ourselves! QUIET, except for the roar of the sea! I dunno! I stay to myself, have always been sort of a loner, but love a good time! I'm from New Orleans and New Orleans, this isn't! I love it just the same though. So much, I've never left, as they call folks who visit and never leave, there. I miss home, but this is home, now. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, "chris.hartsgrove" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > True enough... but let's be realistic. Of that 17k, how many are vocal?
