Mano da,

You ask why in Denver, the Texas performances were pushed back later
in the evening. In Denver, the problems were the following

1) The main problem was everything started late.
2) The tablist we hired said he would leave at 11 PM.
Dr. Anima Chowdhury, who was our featured guest said she wouldn't
sing without a tablist. So, we had to get her program done
before the tablist left. Programs had to be moved around.
3) We paid several hundred dollars to the tablist (I think something
like 700 or 750 for two long days). He was the "best" in Colorado.
We didn't have money to pay him a few hundred extra dollars
to keep him beyond 11 PM.
4) Some of the MCs, who were young, changed programs around without
telling anyone when Bonmayuri (one of the persons
in charge) was getting dressed before her dance and when he
went to her room to get changed after the program. This was
a total of an hour or so.
5) The other person in charge, Deepak, didn't know anyone in the
Assamese community. He is also a very easy going person.
When people forcefully demanded changing of schedule, he approved them.
   And, people can be forcefu!
6) From what I remember, the Texas performers wanted their programs
to be together so that they can showcase their talents.

I think I have explained these things to many people over and over again.
I hope it puts things to rest once for all.

I have deep regards
for the Texas Assamese individuals for their artistic, organizational,
political and fund-raising abilities. But, you guys have to act
a little less forceful, a little more giving, a little more sensitive,
a little more
respectful of others. Otherwise, in spite
of all the great qualities you possess, the general impression
among a lot of people is that you guys behave like bullies, whether it's
true or not.

The behind-the-scenes agreement with ASA in St. Louis came because
ASA insisted on it. ASA saw it as a way to bind AANA (when AANA
was showing clear tendencies to go it alone) to a joint
decision-making process, which is good for the community.

The unification poll was completely rigged. Yes, I and a couple of others
run assam.org on without making any money. We have spent several thousand
dollars over the past 6-7 years running it without anything in return.
We could have written/used a better program, but we don't have the time
to do so, although we are trying our best. We have had many polls
on the site, and this is the first time people took to rigging.
We will have better polling software soon.

Jugal
